Good post :good Ive been saying from the start that Pavliks ability to sqeeze into 160 is his biggest asset,at 168 hes getting mauled.
Kelly Pavlik may never beat a well timed boxer like Hopkins but guys like Andrade are made for him. Someone who will come right at him straight up for a fight? Kelly knocks him out I think. Underrated power and even moreso when he doesn't have to go looking for the guy.
ok, not as bad as manfredo. but he certainly is not the world beater people think he is. i don't even if he can get by a sakio bika, edison miranda. i like the guy too, but i have to be honest with his ability. like a said many times if a ref did to me what he did to andrade in that fight i would have gone zab judah on him. his trainer howard davis shoved the ref after the fight. how andrade remained his composure is beyond me. hopefully, he will remember that night, and bring so fire into the ring. i don't want to see how tough he is, i want to see how good he is.
Andrade has no jab, likes to block punches with his face, and walk down his opponents. A fighter like that is perfect for Pavlik.
:good your preaching to the choir here. a fighter like that is perfect for anyone not just pavlik. everyone would be looking like pbf the night he fought gatti.
I'd probably favour Pavlik by decision, but I'm not so sure that Andrade is "perfect" for Pavlik. At 160, someone who willingly engages will get eaten alive by KP, but at 168 it's a different story - especially when you consider Andrade's chin and heart. There's no doubt Pavlik has the better tools, but can he resist going toe-to-toe? Getting caught up in exchanges isn't going to make this an easy fight. At least one thing's for sure: it's FOTY material, and nobody wins this one without a war.
Styles make fights, and regardless of the outcome this one would ruin both fighters. If it didn't ruin both guys, both would at least lose half a step; sort of like Haglar/Mugabi. That's why I hope it never happens.
i agree. and it's not if he loses, it's when he loses. andrade is a good gatekeeper. pavlik really does not need to get rid that ymca boxing coach he's with now so he can improve on his game. manny steward would be a great trainer for him. he already thinks very highly of pavlik after beating jt. and steward's specialty is working with tall lanky fighters. i also like joe goosen a lot. there's an underated trainer if there ever was one. tells his fighter exactly what he needs to hear. does anyone know who goosen is working with these days?
