I wouldn't mind seeing him face Berto, but I'm almost sure it's not going to happen. They will go for a name opponent next if they can't get Mayweather, probably Mosley or JMM.

Yeah you may be right. The meaningful come back fights for him are dwindling due to the time to heal. Mosley should be gone. Cotto may be too if he keeps taking on top level opponents at 154.

Exactly. Every single person complains about "fighters don't fight". Especially Pac fans. Then when a fighter calls out another fighter? They make up reasons not to fight.

If Mayweather is on the horizon? I would be the first to say Berto should take a number and not expect the fight. In this case though, Berto did EXACTLY what we expect young fighters to do... CHALLENGE.

At least Mayweather puts up no false pretenses about it.

Well...they have said they will be extending Floyd the fight first...with a deadline, of course. If he declines, or misses that deadline, the PPV numbers (for negotiating purposes) mean less. It then becomes about who the next best option is..fewer PPV numbers or not.

They said they want to stay at 147. Berto is already at 147. Of course, there will be no issues over the split etc. Should be an easy fight to make. Berto has a major title and is undefeated. He is young, flashy, and marketable. The unfortunate tragedy in his family's home country, Haiti, has opened the eyes of the rest of the world, to the devastation of this land. His sacrifices to aid that country, are admirable and well documented.
All these angles can be used to market Berto and this fight. No one has given him a shot, yet.

If they let Floyd get to him first, he will make this into a huge event.

    Can you verify that?

Also, don't you think it was reasonable?

Also, it has been a full week where in the hell are the Margo numbers?

  6. You do realize that Berto sold 987 tickets in his last fight, right? And this is with the promise of proceeds going to Haiti earthquake relief.

    :-(

Can you tell us ANY ticket count for a fight Clottey sold? Right. Nobody was checking or interested.

I say this as a Clottey fan.

  8. Martinez-Williams was an upcoming superfight with the whole boxing world
waiting in anticipation. I bet they have the numbers already, but are waiting for a "quiet time" to drop the number. That way, they can turn the spotlight back on Pacquiao-Mayweather.

    My official prediction: 1.5 million

Berto needs to get guys in his corner to get him prepared for the big time first. He's not ready for Pac.

And how many tickets has Joshua Clottey sold, as the main draw at any event? 987 > 0.

Besides, the star power of either Pac or Mayweather will carry any fight they are a part of, at this point.

    :lol::good

What's wrong with Berto's belt? Pac has been picking up all kinds of questionable ones. Berto is an undefeated young champion with some speed, and good skills. I wanna see Pac with an opponent like that. Give some of the young fighters a chance.
