There's me thinking he's a big for even a Welterweight. I can't see him cutting down to 140 easily, but if he does, then all the best to him. He'll be a great addition what's an amazing division already. I wouldn't mind seeing him take on Bradley

Not a bad idea. I always thought he was a little too thick and small for a welterweight anyway.

No he's ****ing not.. he's not even particularly strong as welterweight either. In certain fights where Berto hasn't come in at 100% he's even carrying around a little extra body fat around the middle.

The Stupidest Decision EVER. Berto is a Title-Holder at 147lbs. The Top 2 fighters at 147lbs will be out of the Sport with 2 Years (Pac & Floyd). You can claim and become TOP-DAWG at 147lbs and all roads will lead to you. **** NO don't go down to 140, for what? You're only 25 and 147lbs is about to explode:
    Saul Alvarez
    Mike Alvarado
    Lamont Peterson
    Kel Brook
    Alfonso Gomez
    Antwone Smith
    Mike Jones
    Lanard Lane
    James De La Rosa
    Vernon Paris
    Mickey Bey Jr.
And eventually that group of 140lbs fighters, they'll move-up.

And the talent at 154lbs is FAR BETTER AND BRIGHTER than 140lbs...HANDS DOWN!!!
Sergio Martinez and Paul Williams can make 154lbs
    Antonio Margarito
    Yuri Foreman
    Miguel Cotto
    Ryan Rhodes
    Alfred Angulo
    Kermit Cintron
    James Kirkland
    Cory Spinks
    Omar Henry
    Shawn Porter
    Sergiy Dzinziruk
    Erislandy Lara

I agree Darryl, he should just bide his time and fight the best fighters the 147 pound division has to offer, eventually he will get a good payday that he wants.

    Calm down mate.

Looking at him, I just thought he was stocky and naturally thick for his size. But like I said, if he's able to make it down 140 safely, then great.

If he can make it and be sure of getting the likes of Alexander, Bradley, Khan, Maidana and Ortiz in the ring, then why not? Pac and Floyd won't fight him because he's still not an established elite name, Mosley might be going and Cotto has moved up. The welterweight division has run it's course, 140 is where it's at and Berto should get a piece of the action.

I can see what you are saying because he looks stocky, toned and doesn't look like he has much to cut down on, but I'm sure it can be done. Even if he's got to burn off a few lbs of muscle then I'm sure if he doesn't do it too quickly it can be done healthily.

Yeah that's exactly why I thought that. But yeah I suppose considering he's still pretty young, he could safely come down to 140. Or maybe try out a catch-weight bout with someone down there first?

To be honest...I suspect and actually have gotten confirmation that alot of posters have found merit and validity in my post and/or created threads. But are blinded by their "PERCEPTIONS" of who I am or what I represent. And it all started by a poster, who's name I will not mention, but he & I have had a HATE-HATE relationship since 2005 that begin with arguing about Basketball in a Hoops Forum.

He stirred up the rumor that I am a RACIST and instead of everyone forming an independent thought on that accusation...what did they do, you guessed it: JUMPED ON BOARD. Saying..."Yeah, he is huh". Which told me, there are no leaders in ESB...JUST FOLLOWERS!!!

Berto probably struggles to make 147, no way will he make it down to 140, and if he can I doubt he will be very effective. He ballons up big between fights, if he took better care of himself I might be able to buy that this is anything more than trash talk to keep his name in the news.

He's only big due to all that weight training his dad put him through. If he can safely cut a little muscle without shocking his nerves he's better suited at this time for 140. Welterweight has always for the most part had a very talented pool, minus a few years here or there. He doesn't even have the kind of power at welter to hurt the top players there.

So go to 140 perfect your craft and move back up in a couple years if and when you're ready to control there.
