This. Well said man. 1 loss in boxing and suddenly a guy is a hype job. It is ridiculous. Part if the reason as well is that the UFC make the matchups, so there is less bs. Im not saying UFC is perfect, but can you Imagine Nate Diaz saying to Connor after he beat him "Oh we can do a rematch, but Connor needs to know that I'm in the position of power now" like Ward did to Kovalev? The UFC would be like eff you dude. Kovalev already gave up every damn advantage there was, so NOW what demands is Ward gonna have?

It's a rematch I would love to see, but because one side is delusional we probably won't see it cuz the first fight lost money.

I am glad that you took the time to dig into that. I knew that the statement was shaky and without merit but I just didn't wanna take the time to dig into it for the contradictions. Thanks

The promoters/mgmt of the fighters decide who ref's and who judges a fight.
There's a list that each state has that the teams choose from.

Many judges/refs are sanctioned to carry out both privileges in many states/countries that the ABCs have privileges in.

As for how this relates to the OP, irt PBC events making better matchups is beyond me.

We're going to end up with a stickied Kovalev UD Ward thread for all these off topic posts to end up in soon enough.

A big fight like that doesnt need a high profile undercard.
Haymon could pay Brook 1.5 mil, while paying Spence 500K, and not need to spend more than 200K on 2 supporting fights for lesser title fights.
Im sure Robert Easter and Hank Lundy could be easily made as chief support, while calling on Malik Scott to fight someone like Joey D in an 8rdr as filler for a Saturday afternoon on NBC in early late May in Dallas.

    As for risk/reward????
Brook is likely the best WW not named Pacqioua or Mayweather, but his frame is built for LMW/MW, and Spence is likely the next best MW when chickens of 154 move N after GGGs departure.

AS FOR TODAY though.......an L to either fighter vs the other doesnt hurt their legacy.
Was Brook ever gonna take over as a PPV fighter once Mayweather and Pac were gone for good????
How bout Spence???? Yeah, he might be the next ATG, but let's be honest.......PPV is DEAD. DEAD.

GBP are holding the last big PPV draw, and the public is getting wise.

Just last week we saw two top 10 p4p fighters, in their primes, fighting at their best weights, both dynamic names with large followings and going up against NOTHING, and it sold a pathetic 150K+

The sports most exciting fighter could do but 150K in a title unification fight with another of the sports premier exciting KO machines.
Yellers #s continue to drop as more light is shed on his manufactured career, and the heir apparent to Bobs PPV king, Pacquiao, flopped fighting the LWWs version of Wladimir Klitscko.

So.....2-3 yrs down the rd.....Brook will be a top 5 MW or LMW making 1-2 mil/fight vs the likes of Charlos, Andrade, Hatley, Harrison, Lee etc etc etc
2-3 yrs down the same rd, Spence will be a top 5 MW/LMW making similar $$$ fighting the same type opponents.

This fight merely decides who gets to rip apart Danny's fragile hymen after he gets yet another robbery win over yet another stablemate.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the ppv model at the moment. I think it's finally working correctly. This is just what the fighters are worth. None of them should be making the kind of money they do. None of them are really stars like Pacquiao and Mayweather were. They should only make about three to five million dollars for a big fight. That's the market telling them, "That's what you're worth." Only the very elite in the sport should make a million dollars in a fight. I mean, a million dollars is a lot of money. I think people have lost sight of this basic economic fact.

Before May and Pac normalized PPV the only guy who did those kinds of 1 million buy numbers was ODL. When Morales fought Barrera on PPV they only got like 150k-300k. Before May and Pac fought ODL they only made 150-300k ppvs, and they'd done a lot more than Kovalev or Ward have by then. Everyone wants that May/Pac money but nobody wants to do what they did to get it.

All these pay per fools who want to start at the top and move sideways can cry me a river. Gonzalez has done more than all of them and probably hasn't made 4 million his whole career. Somebody should tell guys like Saunders and Jacobs that they are contenders and don't deserve a million dollars to fight the champ. There's a going rate for these things which is based on your own drawing power.

Well.....Brook and GGG both deserved the $$$ they made in their PPV which was in the neighborhood of 10 and 8 mil respectively after all the revenue was divied.

What did May and Pac do to get Tyson-esque PPV money?
Was it so long ago that you forgot 37 y/o Lennox Lewis coming off his career defining fight, turning down $40 million bucks to make the rematch of the millenia?

Pac and May both beat a fading ODLH en route to settling in at or near their peak weight, both of which likely roided themselves into their career ending frames.

Brook and Spence aren't likely to become PPV stars since once they settle into their natural weights, they will be far too dangerous for the limited but for some reason, PPV worthy???, Yeller Canelo.

However, Spence, Lubin, Brook, Charlos, etc can all become boxing superstars in their own right making fights across their perspective ponds.

The Charlos, Lubin and Spence making MW fights vs the likes of Brook, BJS, Williams, Eubank Jr and the Smiths.

Damn.....the MW divisions, held back only by politics and fear of a certain Good Boy, could be boxings glam division even moreso than it was once upon a time when Jake and Sugar Ray graced its weight parameters.
