he should be fighting fighting at 154 despite having a frame for a middlewight, he fights 140lb fighters at 147 having weight advantage and size advantage yet still performs poorly, he was schduled to fight malinaggi before the khan fight was annouced and wanted maidana, bradley and kotelnik. louis collazo a fighter who isnt see as true worldclass almost had him beat and he refused to give collazo a rematch. in spite of moselys advanced age i still think mosely at the age of 40 has enough in him to KO berto should they fight next year.
not a big fan either. don't forget his "fight" against urango where he was so terrified of being hit by a fighter from a smaller division (who admittedly looked huge that night) that he spent 2:57 of each round holding him decent fundamentals, good hands speed, but sloppy as all ****.
i always gave him the benefit of the doubt but now hes scheduled to fight hernandez hes held that belt for 2 years and has faced no legit challenges most of the fighters hes faced havent even been in the top 10 this mexican kid isnt even in the top 30, he'll get roughed up by any legit fighter in the top 10
maybe but like you said he's gotta prove it. he's gotta prove he belongs. how you can be one of the most talent rich divisions in the sport and fight NO ONE for nearly 2.5 years is unbelievable. and when a **** performance against an overrated journeyman in collazo is your biggest achievement, it's time to rethink your career
Berto is considered by many to be a small ww and you think he SHOULD be fighting at jmw? BTW, Dibella is still pursuing a Berto-Mosley fight for early next year.
Berto was signed sealed and delivered to face Shane Mosely before Floyd Mayweather Jr. Then a Mass Earthquake hit Haiti. It's not like he wasn't moving to the best. Mosely should thank his lucky stars it all happened. He has made a ton of money since then. A potential loss to Berto would have left him dry in the well. If they do fight now Mosely is in exactly the same spot he was after a loss and a draw...with his pockets lined. If he wins he is back in line for a mega fight. Berto though, does not get the same credit for a win now IMO. I'd still like to see the fight but this is not Berto's fault. Mother Nature and Father Time have taken pity on Shane.
I don't buy that Berto cancelled the fight because his cousins were hit by the earthquake. They could have just postponed a few weeks. The funny part is that Berto ended up fighting Quintana BEFORE Mosley fought Floyd. I think Haymon stepped in and put the breaks on Berto vs Mosley. Haymon knew Berto would probably beat Mosley but wanted to cash in on PBF vs SSM.
Berto vs Mosely fell because of Pac vs Floyd falling. Shane got locked into a better deal than Berto after the cancellation. And I swear some of his immediate family was there in Haiti. And he stepped up as a national figure to help his people. WTF is wrong with that? I think he was class in the whole deal.
didn't berto fight as a middleweight or super middle when he turned pro? and wasn't he fighting in the same division as andre dirrell in the olympics?
Well doesn't this mean that the baton was properly passed from mayweather? When was the last time the WBC welterweight championship was contested by TWO top welterweight fighters?
Berto did fight at the higher weights (middle/jmw) early in his pro career but has since settled at a more appropriate weight division for his frame. The move down isn't uncommon. Similarly, Gamboa has moved down to FW after fighting at SFW and LW early on.
Berto does not have the frame for a middleweight hes only 5 8 and he already looks very stocky at welterweight. If he moved up he would look more like a bodybuilder or would be pudgy
