Maybe Cotto is waitiing for Berto to finally step up. Altough I dont think Berto will fight @ 154 or a top fighter in the next year. Canelo will probably get a big fight before this overrated cat gets one.

147 is the ideal weight division for Berto. He doesn't have the height or reach to be effective against the better junior-middleweights.

He really has to pick up his level of competition - he's had that title for quite a while now and, Collazo aside, his opponents have been of a very low standard. His upcoming fight with Hernandez is a nothing fight - he really needs to try and get someone like Mosley in the ring next. Even Clottey or Aydin would be a step in the right direction.

I've got a horrible feeling that Golden Boy might manouvre Malignaggi into a title shot though - that's probably more Berto's style.

what i'm trying to say is the man has had experience at above weights yet pursues fights and wants to clear out the division below his own weight class and he does a **** job at beating smaller guys like urango and forbes. he was exposed by a part time fighter in louis collazo and he should be taking fights against the rated fighters of which there are plenty at welter instead hes fighting a bum who nobody knows of and is rated outside the top 20 and this is coming in his 5th title defence, 2 Years after claiming the title. there are more worthy challengers at 147 then hernandezs

Yeah, he turned pro at 162lb on his debut. Heard to believe looking at him, he must have been in terrible shape or built like an absolute brick ****-house, given he looks pretty built already.

And he boxed at welterweight in the '04 Olympics, whilst Dirrell boxed at MW. But yeah, he beat Dirrell twice, so he must have boxed between both divisions.

He's definately not a big welterweight though, he looks excessively built at times and still comes in usually a couple of pounds under. It might take him time as he'd have to work off some muscle, but could he even make 140?

Berto's as natural a WW, as they come. He should stay right where he is. My biggest issue with him, is he's been coddled WAY too long. I think his handlers are waiting for the division to clear out, of the elite fighters. In the meantime, they are just keeping Berto's star shining, as much as possible, while keeping him off the radar of the truly great fighters. Once guys like Manny, Floyd, Cotto, and SSM (all fighters that would most likely beat him, convincingly) hang them up, and the 140'lbers start moving up, I think we will see more of Berto, in meaningful fights. With that said, do I think he is a cherrypicker? YES...

does anyone remember how he looked at the mosley press conference? mother****er got fat! though i agree with most that 154-160 would just be a walking mound of muscle for him. still, he's fought no one, done nothing, and is just getting older.

Dude, Berto lost 8 effin family members in the earthquake. I'm pretty sure it was the earthquake that cancelled his fight with Mosley. Consequently, an apparent act of god was what it took for a Floyd-Mosley fight to happen.

Berto's comp is crap, but Hernandez isnt that bad of a fighter. He can punch, which is the more then can be said than the rest of Berto's comp. Still, Berto should beat Hernandez pretty easily. After that... I'd really like for him to fight Mike Jones. Jones could possibly be the man to beat him.
