    Exactly.

He was paying Conte for expert nutritional and conditioning advice. He would not go and self-prescribe himself something else.

Conte gave him the drugs, either with Berto's consent or not. I have no reason to assume he isn't supplying other fighters too.

I think it should be mandatory for all Americans to be tested.

    Disagree.

If they want to test Boxers then they test them no matter where the fighter is from.

BERTO was caught through URINE TEST, which again you fail to remember that Pacquiao has always been OK with RANDOM URINE TESTS, which is required by various Boxing commisions.

    the issue is

to pay for tests to catch these people, and obviously the tests needed are very expensive..these arent pregnancy tests you pee on and wait for pink or blue color and you got results,
if they say the cost are too high for this type of testing in order to do all world title fights as their reason not to it becomes very relevant.
meaning they have based a final cost number for 600 title fights (for example) then maybe the cost of doing 200 title fight tests is something they would make it mandatory.

bottom line is money....nobody wants to pay it , it will never be a mandatory without a commission

so I guess it's up to the fighters to pay the fees themselves.

Haven't read the thread but is the fight cancelled?

Boxing all together should have better testing, but if you are working with someone who used to beat the drug test regulary then you should expect to have to under take random test.

To this day East German athletes say they never took steroids. Just the copious amounts of vitamins their trainers gave them. :nut

If it's just for world title fights then increase the % taken from a fighters purse, to say 4.5%. Then again, ideally as stated, I'd want it to apply to all fighters who are ranked in the top 50 of a major organisation. Realistically, that wouldn't be financially viable.

Which raises the issue; where would you make testing mandatory? Just for World title fights? Alot of guys wouldn't really be able to afford to pay for testing.

Some of the lesser known world title fights aren't for big money. Remember you have numerous sanctioning bodies and weight classes. Purse would have to be the determining factor here.

Testing in boxing is very hard to do. People who suggest it flippantly do so without any sort of knowledge about how the sport is structured. The best thing that fans can do is petition the governing bodies to ensure strict testing. Anything beyond that is an unfeasible pipe dream.
