Its a waste of time. They have many many more deserving and talented fighters who would make a better co-main event.
I actually think it is a good step up fight for Alexander. He allegedly was addicted to pain killers like the last five years. I know he started losing to dudes he would have soundly beat when he was a little younger. He still isn't very old. Sure his style was somewhat limited, and it seemed like he hit his plateau, but I'd like to see him right his ship and have some success, he seems like a good guy. He's not an arsehole like some of these young guys are now days.
Berto, and Alexander have name value. How many fights between two past it guys have been aired over the last few years. This is par for the course. It's an intriguing crossroads fight, will be a good measure of what Alexander has left. Who would you have rather had them put on this card? Not saying you are wrong, considering that Berto is the opponent, but Alexander is a long time Haymon fighter. He's still somewhat young, and had some serious issues outside of the ring. I don't have a problem with him getting the slot against a Berto. He's a guy that if he can get back in it, is a legit top 10 guy. Supposedly he was addicted to pain killers since he had that nose surgery a few years ago.
His style was never scintillating, but he's been a solid competitor. The only real smirch on his conduct was the "it burns" episode - we can assume he learned something from it, given the professional toughness displayed in subsequent fights. 'Worthy' is the best adjective I can think of to sum up Devon Alexander; it's not a glowing endorsement, but there are much less complimentary ways in which to describe a prizefighter.
I hate to agree but ,yeah it is. Should be good but Haymon missed out on actually turning a profit by not having this 5 years ago. I'm starting to wonder does he hate making money.
Yeah plus haymon is just going to build him up a bit get him a win against someone like Berto then feed him to spence later in the year.
fight is like 6 years too late, but oh well. Berto can't knock out Devon and Devon will move and throw combinations. Devon wins a clear decision.
Yeah if he beats Berto, he would be viewed as a somewhat safe stay busy fight for Thurman also. I know Thurman would rather fight Alexander, than Porter again.
Yeah but Thurman given it so much talk about how he won’t fight spence till 2019 partly because he wants to give porter a rematch that I think if he was to then turn round and fight Devon later this year instead of porter he would catch so much ****.
Yeah he would. Honestly, I thought Porter could have gotten the nod in their first fight. I think that between the two of them, Porter has actually refined his mugging style a bit, and gotten better, while Thurman has stagnated the last couple years as far as improvements.
Alexander is at least (or was at least) a legitimate top boxer, whereas Berto was just built up to eventually make Floyd look good in a fight, and when it came to it, he didn't even do that.
Yeah he’s been found wanting slightly as he’s gone up levels, he’s got a great resume no doubt and porter is a tough fight for anyone but it Wernt a great look that porter was beating him to the jab.
