While I may not agree with how Mayweather fights, one can't deny his hit and run style will be difficult to beat for anyone who is not fast enough to catch him on the run or when he punches, since he doesn't exchange. Having that said, it is fair to say any slow guys will probably not have a good chance at winning simply because he is a very cautious defensive fighter who will not risk getting caught or ko'd, and he has very good legs to keep moving throughout the fight. I know recently people are talking alot about Mayweather fighting Pacquiao, Cotto, Mosely, etc. One fighter you don't hear anything about, however, is Berto. I think Berto would present problems. Here is why: Has a higher work rate than Mayweather, although not as skilled defensively, possibly has faster hands and throws punches in bunches and combinations, something Mayweather no longer does. Any questions about Berto's chin would not be explored because Mayweather doesn't punch with conviction. In addition, Berto has shown to have good stamina, heart, and is mentally strong. Because Berto is so explosive offensively and throws combinations, I think Mayweather would be forced to fire back offensively to keep up with the workrate. Thoughts?
I would say Mayweather by late rounds stoppage ... I not only question Berto's chin but I also question his "motor" ... he seemed faded in the late rounds against Collazo and against Forbes ... it'll be interesting to see what he can do against someone like Mayweather in the late rounds. I'm sure that his punch output would decline and he would take alot of punishment in the later rounds ... rather he's able to survive is another question.
Berto is nowhere near floyd's league. He would be the weakest possible opponent mayweather could get away with fighting. He is sloppy. His defense is leaky. He is inexperienced. Mayweather would knock him out in dramatic fashion.
Berto ---- Behave he whould get a Boxing lession his got nothing to worry floyd and id take floyd by mid to late TKO in an awesome Boxing clinic
I actually saw the contrary in the Collazo fight. His stubbornness and unwillingness to loose pulled him through the fight, especially late...it was Collazo who gassed out. I think Collazo attributed in Berto tiring somewhat do to the high volume output type of fight it turned out to be. Collazo certainly came in motivated and wanted to win. My point is that Mayweather isn't really a volume puncher more of a sniper one punch counter puncher. However, when he's gotten tagged in the past is with guys who throw more than one punch or guys with with fast hands. Berto has both. In fact, I'll go out on a limb and say I don't recall a boxer able to put combos with that many punches and speed since probably Roy Jones Jr, with Roy obviously doing it better.
I don't know which Berto you've seen, but the one I've seen fights in spurts, gets tired easily, has innumerable holes in his defense, and practically lost to Luis Collazo. Floyd would absolutely school Andre Berto. The true welterweight with the speed, power, and stamina needed to beat Mayweather is Mosley and Mosley alone........That being said, I'd still take Floyd in a UD vs Mosley...
While Berto's physical ability and athleticism is equal to, or probably even surpasses Floyds, his skill level isn't anywhere close to Floyds. If a guy like Collazo was able to figure out Berto than Floyd would have a field day with him. Floyd would just be able to frustrate Berto to a point that he would break down mentally. I like Berto a lot but let's be serious, he would have no chance in hell against Floyd.
PBF via KO. Berto's aggression will work against him and he's going to run into shots and eventually get KOed.
Berto isn't as bad as some are making him out to be. Sure he has holes in his game but he presents some of the things that have given Floyd problems. My point is styles make fights. In the Collazo fight, Collazo fought fire against fire and that presented some problems for Berto, but there was only so much that Collazo could keep up with. He started falling apart in the later rounds. As for Floyd, the last time he fought someone with the same type of physical abilities he had a hell of a time for 4 rounds before Judah started to break down mentally as he usually does.
