Where does Berto's career go from here now? What should be his next move besides the generic back to the gym & start from scratch ect... Trainer switch?? A move to 154?
Berto is a funny dude. Everytime he gets drop, be always get up with the same move....playing it off as if he got hit in the back of the head . But to answer your question he should go back to fighting tomatoe cans. He has achieved more then most in boxing, you just don't make 1mill plus in boxing.
He needs a new trainer. Everytime HBO showed Berto's corner it was pandemonium with everyone talking at once. It was the same thing in the Zaveck fight and especially against Ortiz. But I really don't thing Berto will change, except to decline gradually. He seems to be badly in need of an attitude adjustment. He has a victim's mentality that he would be unbeaten if only the world wasn't against him, which doesn't make any sense because his two losses were legit, many though he lost close but clear to Collazo, and he was saved by the cut in the Zaveck fight which was turning against him in a serious way before the bout was stopped. I can't tell if Berto is as stupid as he seems, or if he's so staggeringly arrogant that he can't see any errors in his ways. I think its actually a case of both. Berto is the perfect example of how exposing a fighter to huge paydays ($ 250,000 and up) before they've done anything to earn that money will naturally corrupt that fighter's self-image. In that respect Berto is of a similar spieces to Jermain Taylor and Jeff Lacy. His progress was stunted by huge unearned sums of money.
Don't worry Berto has at least one more ridiculously stupid pay day in him. DiBella would never have allowed Berto to be sub contracted to GBP for one fight just so that he could be left with a beaten fighter that wasn't worth something. You can rest assured that there is a deal in place for Berto to have a another title shot against one of their money fighters with in the next year or so. At 29 years old expect it to be the last shot Berto gets.
Maidana would ****ing tare him to pieces. He got chinned twice by a guy with average power. Maidana would ****ing son him badly.
Ortiz re-match, Maidana, Alexander.. Alot of options for Berto. He's an exciting fighter.. He will be on HBO again!
I was impressed by the heart and will to continue and for the first time i liked his conditioning that said he had way more negatives than positives jab- it was a flicking back handing like jab had no power no authority work rate- it was terribly low this guy is so drunk with his power he loads up a couple shots but doesnt put his punches together his left hand- its useless his jab is bad he didnt throw the left hook he had zero pop on the left in fighting- he couldnt infight he only had 2 punches a rabbit punch and an uppercut both with his right only shoulder roll- **** it just looked awful took the left out of the fight and and he wasnt hard to hit legs- i always wondered if it was his chin or his legs but this fight and vs Ortiz his legs went early and buckled throughout the fight, as he has slowed down he is more vulnerable i think Berto has taken vast steps in the other direction and as he ages and slows his errors and flaws are made worse, in his mid 20's he was athletic and fast enough to get a way with it at 29 he has slowed enough to be vulnerable and he seems like he cant formulate a good plan and stick to it i mean he couldnt get space vs Guererro to throw and let Guererro fight him inside, i mean he exposed Berto for having zero inside game
there are tons of options out there for berto. the guy was in last year's fight of the year and made a strong case for this year's as well. there are tons of fights out there for him. he's officially a must see action fighter in my book. guerrero 2 ortiz 2 peterson josesito maidana bradley abregu thurman? andre berto will come again. he'll be making good money in this sport until he declines
