When do you think this guy could step up into title contention and who should he fight before he crosses this line. I think it is kinda bull**** he is ranked #1 by the WBC

read a report today saying he will fight Clottey for the vacant IBF title which Margotio will give up to fight Cotto.

Should be a good fight, I rate both quite highly, though the W/W's are so good at the minute both could struggle.

I think he is still too green for clottey this could derail his career

I'd like to see him fight Collazo. He's not to far up the ladder, yet slick enough to provide a lot of answers. Jmo.

Not Cintron. He is a decent welterweight but considering his last loss.... people will say he's either "still effected by it" or... wasn't that good anyways.

Collazo is a decent choice, but What about Hlatswayo? Or Bonsu?

They've got experience and aren't too far from the top if I remember correctly, both in the top 15 welterweights I believe.

Berto is also fighting in an eliminator to become the #1 contender by the IBF. I think that its only a matter of time before he gets a shot at a title ... he's won a regional belt and defended it ... he's also fought notable stepping stones in Estrada and Rivera ...

I think his next step should be against a former titlist or a recent title contender ... a few fighters come to mind:

    Luis Collazo
    Kermit Cintron
    Alfonso Gomez
loser or winner of Judah v Mosley ... Williams v Quintana

Berto reminds me too much of Jeff Lacy. I see Berto having a Calzaghe-styled beatdown at the hands of someone sooner than later.

Berto is no where close to being as one dimensional as Jeff Lacy ... he can get on his toes ... he can box ... and he has great speed ... Berto doesn't need to have his feet planted to throw punches.

Its just that Berto takes alot of punches ....

Berto needs to work on his defense more and his body work. He also tends to get wild when he thinks he has opponent hurt, much like Judah. I definitely wouldnt put him against mosley. collazo would be ok. clottey would probably kill him.

im very high on andre berto he reminds alot of meldrick taylor because oh his hand speed when he has an opponent cornered, and that he's a skilled brawler in the same sense that meldrick was.

I agree that I don't think he should be ranked #1 in the WBC Rankings. I would like to see him face a real Top 10 opponent before he gets his title shot. I would like to see him in there with Luis Collazo or Joshua Clottey in there at some point hopefully later on this year. He is a very good prospect, but we will see how good he really is once they out him in there with a solid contender.
