yet another frightening example of how these guys expose themselves to very real danger for our 'entertainment.'i sometimes feel uncomfortable in my role as a fan and spectator of the 'sport' of boxing, when i hear stories of fighters - even slick stylists such as dirrell,or just small-hall triers such as jason rushton, suffering appalling neurological damage in their pursuit of titles and/or money to feed the family.it does make me wonder sometimes if this brutal game is really worth the pain and torment that nearly all the players have to endure sooner or later,be it during or after their careers have ended.my heart goes out to both dirrell and rushton, and their respective families, not to mention any other fighter who has been injured during the pursuit of their dreams.get well soon, guys.

I agree with you a 100%. James Toney is another boxer who clearly shows signs of neurological damage. Its incredible that promotions show subtitles from his speaking instead of ban him from fighting.

If he is being honest, it's really bad, that goes without saying.

However, the things he has said are happening can't be proven. For people worried about his health, you should be comforted by the fact he's shown no obvious brain damage, such as slurring his words.

...the same goes for south london heavyweight, harry senior, who has been very poorly since suffering two strokes in december last year, aged just 40.if these guys were professional footballers, they'd be comfortable for life.unfortunately,as mere mortals and probably 'just' journeymen fighters, many of these guys face an uphill struggle when tragedy strikes, even when, invariably, their fellow pro's rally around(which is always highly commendable and shows that boxers are,by and large, decent, caring, human beings)get well soon, harry.you more than paid your dues to the sport.

    Good post.

People tend to forget what sacrifice these so called "bums" make in order to entertain us and obviously earn a living for themselves.

btw, isn't it sad that some posters are making light of dirrell's plight?guys at this level ain't scared to fight - it's the promoters who veto bouts against 'evens' opponents.dirrell,i'm sure, would fight anyone in his division.however,if he's suffering terrible, blinding headaches and getting 'quivers'in his arms and hands,he's gotta do what's right by andre dirrell, and to hell what idiotic 'fight fans' have to say about him!

I've read that whatever it is Dirrell is claiming doesn't happen to fighters until they're long, long retired. I was under the impression he's using this as an excuse

    Who knows though?
It's easy to say "They only suffer from it after their careers are done"

Gerald McClellan complained about headaches and migraines post- Julian Jackson I.

of course, it is horrible and it is even worse there is no social security in place for such cases.

as for Dirrell, it is difficult to oversee that his problems were made public at a highly unconvinient moment. i wish him well and luck, true or not, he will need it after this incident.

But that is a risk they have to take..i work regular 9 to 5 job and dont risk my life but i make shitty money compare to what dirrel makes..all fighters know the risk and they r willing..feel bad for watching?..then dont..all u gonna do is make the fighters have the same risk but less money...u can always watch waterpolo.....
