He could have easily tko'd Kessler. Green's goal in the match was not necessarily to fight, but to not get ko'd.
I'm not gonna put much weight on amateur results from before these fighters had hair on their balls but its an interesting fact nonetheless.
lol DOH!!! i agree lol Hmmm, this is honestly an intriguing fight. Congratz on posting a subject peeps are actually interested in, and w/o any Euro's being mentioned... Here's my insights between the two - Ward 1) more experienced, stronger pedigree 2) knows Dirrell's very well & his style since the 04 olympics 3) better balanced footwork 4) knows his own style very well and is versatile 5) mentally very powerful - a winner's/champion's mentality 6) does not have any obvious weaknesses Dirrell 1) not as experienced 2) uncomfortable/still feeling out his own style 3) knows Ward and his capabilities well 4) will not get roughed up by Ward cuz of friendship 5) more athletic, faster puncher 6) sometimes off-balanced & take risky punches I will expect Ward to gradually increase pressure round to round. Dirrell possibly steals a few rounds in the front 6. Back 6 will be owned by Ward. Sound UD for Ward....
I think Dirrell's speed will be the difference. Ward will have trouble cornering Dirrell and roughing him up on the inside. I don't think he can outbox Dirrell on the outside either. It doesn't even mean I think Dirrell is better. It's just the styles.
I wish Dirrell all the best, he's got bags of talent but I'm not sure he beats Ward. There seems to be general agreement that Dirrell is a tad faster of hand and foot and I would say that he also strings his punches togther a little more fluidly than does Ward. That said, I think Ward moves well without compromising his defence, has better head and upper-body movement and is on the whole more difficult to hit cleanly. They both use angles well, but I think in heated moments Dirrell sometimes looks a little clumsy/vulnerable. It should be interesting because Ward will probably be the first guy in the tournament planning to outbox Dirrell, rather than just hope to steamroll him with power. I see Ward stifling Dirrell's offense, pot-shotting him and breaking his rythmn. If Dirrell is quicker than Ward, it's not by much and I think he's likely to take far more punches than he did against Froch and Abraham.
hbo..clench's their fist to not have this fight... but they can't wait till the tournament is over to scoop them both up.
Thats what I see.. but I think that Dirrell is a live dog in there during the whole fight so edge goes to the most mental fighter who can keep the gameplan together... im calling for a draw.. it will be hard fought.. I think Dirrell has something differnt to bring.. if he loses I will be the second one to go on record saying he will fight Bute and win.. tough matchup if 2 fighters on the way up..
I favour Dirrell to win but it might not be easy because Ward is good at clinching, inside fighting, head butting and closing the distance.I think Dirrell is the fastest guy on his feet because how he does it I dont know,by the time you go near he's gone.He does move while throwing the jab.I think Dirrell is the best fighter in the tournament, sad he was robbed in Nottingham which is why Froch only wants to fight there.
Whoa, is this you herb? Excellent post, no euro nuthugging. I actually agree, though I am in the minority. Ward has looked superb so far, against stationary, come forward fighters. Kessler is a good boxer, but he's not elusive, and rather one dimensional. Green is worse. Dirrel moves, has angles, is elusive as a cat, and has underrated power and will to win. Everything Herb said was spot on, he will confuse the hell out of Ward with his movement and athleticism, instead of standing there and being a sitting duck for Ward's headbutts and infighting. This might be going out on a limb, but i think Dirrell might embarass Ward, or "expose him" as this board is fond of saying.
I think Dirrell will win this quite comfortably. As long as he protects his Glass Jaw and boxes and moves, he will be too quick for Ward. Ward is feather-fisted so it's unlikely Dirrell's Chin will be Shattered. Ward won't be able to land his key weapon - his cranium, on Dirrell. Of all the Super Six contenders I've seen, Dirrell has the best boxing ability.
haha good stuff... boxing is a sport.. the guys aren't fighting out in the street.. good to see the sportsmanship
No way Dirrel beats Ward. Dirrel cannot handle pressure, this is fact. Ward is all about the pressure, this is fact. Please watch Handsaw/Dirrel first couple of rounds. That is what is going to happen to Dirrel every second of every round until he's stopped. And I am a Dirrel fan too btw.
