Andre Dirrell: Too little too late?

That's true. He was certainly a dirty, ugly fighter but I never saw a poorer performance from him, than the one Dirrell put in.

 

He had Froch wobbling a few times, something AA never came close to accomplishing...Had Dirrel had more confidence (aka 'balls'), he may have ko'd Froch...

You're forgetting that on ESB, any runner is a master boxer, any come forward fighter is untalented an so on.

Dirrell isn't as skilled as Kessler, I don't think. He's less skilled that guys like Jermain Taylor.

 

Let the tournament and beyond play out before you go annointing Ward and Bute as 1 and 2 in the division. Whatever about Ward, Bute isn't ahead of Froch in my opinion. Let him at least fight an elite level fighter like Kessler first.

Dirrell is an athletic talent; not a skilled boxer.

His athletic talent is undeniable. His boxing skills are mediocre.

 

I understand that opinion but I think there needs to be a certain standard for title winning performances. Should guys who make as little attempt to fight as Dirrell did, be rewarded with title belts if they marginally beat a world champion? I don't think they should.

 

You may be right, although if I remember correctly, Kirk Johnson's dq looked to me a massive fake job on Ruiz's part, at least that's what I thought at the time...

Direll landed cleaner. Froch landed more. No mather how you scored the fight or twist your argument, Dirells workrate was so low that a SD or a close UD was to be expected.

If Direll was the real winner, he would have made sure to get the real win.

 

Indeed. He makes many obvious mistakes and gets away with them because of his raw athletic talent. How many things does he do that a technician like Hopkins would praise him on? Not many, I don't think. He's gifted athletically, without question, but I don't think he's a skilled fighter.

The funny thing is, many people on here write Froch off as a "caveman" or whatever and praise Dirrell at the same time, yet Froch outboxed Abraham easier than Dirrell did, and Dirrell was the guy with the huge styles advantage, not Froch.

 

I understand your point, and I think that's why in the case of a draw the champion retains their title. You have to beat the man, not be as good as him. But, if you put out a crap effort and yet the champion puts out a slightly worse effort, you deserve it.

 

A few times , when ? You mean when Froch back pedded and leaned up against the ropes in the 10th, fired straight back at Dirrell and had him in retreat. Point out to me the other times. Your seriously deluded if you think Dirrell would come close to knocking Froch out. For that to happen he would need to open up and trade a bit and he would end up getting dropped by Froch.

His corner knew it was a close fight. People say it was one-sided but even his corner was saying he had to do more. Of course, people who choose to put a spin on it may say Dirrell's team knew he was going to be robbed or whatever, but I don't think that's the case. They knew it was close and that he wasn't doing enough and told him to sort it out.

Assuming Dirrell clearly won the fight, let's say 8 rounds to 4. I'd still say he should have lost the bout, considering how he fought. I think if boxers are allowed to fight in such a negative, spoiling manner and can win world titles, it's setting a bad precedent. I don't want to follow a sport that has world champions who are absolute cowards.
