The tread was from a time where many though Kessler was retired because he was out with another injury.

Make a new thread today and it will look different.

That's a subjective opinion, fair enough..
But you can't go on and say that Kessler has beaten nothing but bums, and then praise Dirrell..

It would be cool to have one with Green half way in the air still.

The only worldclass fighter in Kessler's resume is Froch and it was a close fight that could have gone either way. Dirrell beat Froch clearly but got robbed AND he beat Abraham, undefeated middleweight champion and super 6 favorite. Kessler is not more proven than Dirrell, he's just been in more championship fights but he hasn't beaten more elite fighters than Dirrell.

    Abraham.

And here I thought you were just trolling ...

Seriously, Dirrell allowed himself to be outworked and outlanded against Froch. I agree it was close, because Dirrell landed the better shots, and you can even make a case for him winning. But had Dirrell been TRULY elite he would have done what Ward or Kessler did, and that was to put the heat on. You need to do what the judges like to see, and real top level fighters understand this.

AA is a good win, but Froch and Ward pretty much dominated him as well. Kessler would have won against AA. And not by laying cold on the canvas.

Dirrell seems very talented, but he needs to get his act together and make use of what God and nature gifted him with, and this far he simply has not. He took a long breather after The Super Six, knocked out an average opponent, sacked his promotor and expected Bute to come fight him in California  Now he is back to taking it easy and smoking weed with big bro Anthony. Stop expecting great things to come out of this kid, man.
This thread is c-r-a-c-k-e-r-s!!!

What has Dirrell ever done to make anyone think he's just going to get in there and waltz away with it against a top class operator like Kessler?

We know that Kessler will lose to a top 5 p4p level operator. We also know that he will find out pretty much anyone who is not at that level. Dirrell at this stage is more hype than accomplishment. He's 28 years old and his only notable win was one where he ended the fight out cold. Apart from that, Hanshaw? Oganov? Scraping the barrel there. Contrast that to Kessler who by the time he was the same age had already beat Siaca, Beyer, Mundine, Lucas and Andrade, all top ten fighters, and fought Calzaghe as well.

Dirrell is one of the only fighters who seems to get a pass over far more proven fighters without having to actually do anything to prove himself. His big advantage in this one is speed. That's it. People less knowledgeable than experts such as myself seem to confuse speed and athleticism with skill. It is not the same thing. Kessler does most things well. People claim he's just a one two fighter. He's not. It's a lazy stereotyped criticism made by less knowledgeable types who can't analyse. Kessler's uppercut is a thing of beauty, he throws wicked bodyshots and just flattened Green with a left hook.

Dirre at the moment is a lot of hype, a fair bit of potential and little actual accomplishment. To beat Kessler, you have to have speed. But you also need to be prepared to take the fight to him when required. To up the pace, take him out of his comfort zone. I've never seen anyone beat Kessler by running from him. Dirrell ran like a thief from Froch. Kessler took the ring centre and backed Froch up. Kessler is surprisingly effective at walking down runners. Dirrell does have the superior defence but he can't hurt Kessler and you actually need to fight not just frustrate the guy.

I haven't seen the full fight from last night yet so if Kessler looked as bad as some said then Dirrell may be in with a chance. He is 28 after all, physical prime and all - Kessler'd best years look to be behind him. But the Kessler of a few years ago runs him out of the ring in a fight that looks similar to Kessler- Mundine. If Dirrell wins this it'll be a reflection of how far Kessler has fallen.
Great, insightful post. :good I especially agree with the areas I highlighted..... I've got Kessler by UD or late TKO.

Dirrell takes a fairly wide, early lead (4-1) using his handspeed and lateral movement. As Dirrell slows in the later rounds, Kessler stages a rally, but falls just short. Decision Dirrell in a pretty fan friendly affair.

direll is to fast and to quick on his feet with good range. He would outbox kessler and cruise to a decision.

Depends on how Dirrell comes back. He 'grew up' between Froch and Abraham and it showed. If the cheap shot woke him up instead of ruining him then he takes an easy decision against this version of Kessler who is too active for his own good and wide open to someone like Dirrell.
