Andre Dirrell vs Prime Calzaghe

It'd be a close fight but I'd still favour Dirrell (as long as he applied himself properly).

Maybe I'm biased the other way but and I know it's an old and tired debate but Joe Calzaghe is still being massively overrated. Anyone's career can be picked apart but it's funny to think that had Robin Reid and Bernard Hopkins got the close decisions against Joe, his record would be 44-2, he'd probably still be boxing and Ricky Hatton would be thought of as the greater British boxer!

Roe, my point is why are you rating Dirrell so highly?

If the decision had gone the other way in the Hopkins fight we'd still be able to see how formidable both men were stylistically. The fact that Calzaghe wouldve even lost a one point decision against an ATG would validate him as much as the win preserved his meaningless '0'.

 

I don't rate Dirrell that highly I just think he has the attributes to potentially beat Calzaghe. I don't think Joe would ever be beaten easily because as you and others have mentioned his adaptability was so great. But I still think Dirrell could beat him to the punch and I don't think Joe ever fought anyone as quick as him.

Hey, my predictions are usually wrong anyway so Calzaghe would probably destroy him in 1

 

I'd agree that Dirrell is a completely different proposition to Mario Veit

I would defintley pick Calzaghe but I can't think of anyone Calzaghe has fought with the style of Dirrell .It would be an interesting fight .Dirrell's good man olympic bronze medalist .Calzaghe could still maybe find him a bit akward Froch did man but I think Calzaghe's speed would maybe force him to fight .

 

I think Dirrel gets mightly under rated on this board. He could be the top man at smw if he gets his head together.
Him against any elite opponent would intrigue me, esp JC/Ward who arent big hitters

Still, prime Joe is more proven so i'll pick him. Who knows when Dirrel will hit his, maybe he has already.
One thing FOR SURE...he aint no Lacy type fighter who would get schooled, no chance.

 

I wasn't saying that he would get knocked unconcious but he would be stopped IMO.

For the record I believe Joe is still the only man to floor Lacy.
He had serious power when he was younger but the hands needed protecting when older. He could still bang one in when he needed to though (Kessler was hit with some fairly meaty shots).

Joe would be all over Dirrell and dirrell has nothing to keep him off!!!

 

He has the skills no doubt, but then so did Audley.

Unfortunately neither of them like to fight.

This is what will stop Dirrell from being the man!!!

 

Audley has skills no doubt but Dirrel shouldn't be placed beside the big man as he's been mixing it up competitively with World Class opponents, unfortunately Audley aint.

As i said, if he adapts his style, even a little bit, he'd be a force to be reckoned with. In spells he's looked like the real deal.

Will, out of interest, who would you pick in a Dirrel/Froch rematch??

 

calzaghe absolutley humiliates him. hits him how and when he wants and takes it to the later rounds. dirrell finally falls to the canvas in exhaustion and starts crting in the middle of the ring because hes not getting everything his way. he retires and is never heard from again.

or something like that.
