Ok lads there's been a number of threads about Dre vs Kessler and about him as a fighter and people questioning his integrity and some praising his skills. I'm making this thread as i have a huge deal of respect for this guy. I felt when he faced Miranda he was in deep waters and would end up losing. That night he put up a sublime display and outboxed Miranda. He then entered a competition that would give him no soft touches. He had to step up and fight the best for the next two years without fail and show his undoubted potential was there and that he was truly among the top super middleweights today. He not only did this but faced the most feared champion in his division but also one of the most solid world champions in any divisions. He defeated him and pretty much out boxed Kessler and this is a Ward that imo can only get better. As he said in his interview the Lord puts him to the test each time and he rises to it and no one can argue that for a guy who won an Olympic Gold that he's had an easy route like many other medalists that have gone pro. As a boxer he has a lot to work on but shows fantastic array of punches and also footwork is top notch along with sharp reflexes and good ring iq. He works well in the pocket and shows great versatility (awaiting someone to say about his head) yes he does have recklessness and i wasn't shocked that heads collided and hopefully Andre will cut that out of his game and not let it tarnish what could be a glittering career. As a man he's a born again Christian and is a great role model and ambassador for the sport on a whole compared to many other fighters. He's had a hard life but doesn't ram it down your throat like a certain other super six fighter. Him and his trainer have worked wonders and formed a special partnership and last night Andre came of Age. Post your thoughts on Him and His team and his Boxing Future. He is a good guy and put on one of the most impressive performances in a boxing ring this year; got to give him a lot of credit.
I fancied him to win the Super 6 but thought he'd have to take a loss to Kessler along the way to do it.
He did well. It might have been down to all that work he put in at his winter training camp. This content is protected
He did well and full credit to him. I'm not going to go too crazy over him yet though, need to see a bit more... obviously has very good potential.
Yeah he's far from finished article imo aswell but to put the whole win in context it takes a damn good fighter to beat Kessler imo and i think Ward can only get better. He won't be greatest of all time or anything near but he be very good imo.
(edit: i looked at my post and i dont want to sound like a hater but) some serious overstamentsthere.....any world class boxer is a role moral. and why the knocking of the head about religeon. that shouldnt be an issue at all. not even worth mentioning. and a great great win with a damn good win streak (he isnt just protecting that 0 as a trinket). but lets keep it in perspective huh. there are plenty of well meaning fighters out there who dont have the financial, netoworking, mangerial support that dre has.
Its probably good for the Super 6 that a Yank got a win. You can bet Showtime were breathing a sigh of relief when Ward won (and looked good doing it).
Yup, like Holyfield hes one of those holy Joes who gets away with blatant butts cos hes a holy joe! If you catch my drift.
Ward certainly played those americans like a fiddle when he turned the tournament into a Ryder cup kind of thing, Kessler was NOT amused! It was a master stroke though from the american turning ito an america v Europe thing IMO, but Im not a fan of the man. He was so effective, but I just found him horrible to watch for some reason. I respect ward, but appreciating him, well thats another matter entirely!
To me as a christian i'm proud of him. Floyd Mayweather is also a christian and he acts like a fool and lets the lord down at times and i feel Andre is good role model as a christian but also as a boxer nothing was meant to offend and it was just a statement that's the truth. I sit back and watch people mock the lord on these boards and i let it go as people are entitled to do as they like and it's not for me to judge them. Now can we get back to Andre as a man and as a boxer thank you.
nah i hope it doesn't but i just get fed up when people seem to take anything about the lord or Christianity as a slur and a dirty word. Like i seen people mention about Ward giving thanks to the lord so many times. It shouldn't be a problem. I don't wanna have a argument about it cos i know most will jump on me and i i will end up leaving the forum because i can foresee people having a moan about me mentioning him as a born again christian. I'm proud that he found the lord because he went wayward at a young age and has changed his life thats all i ain't preaching anything just stating a fact. :good
Wards attitude and the way conducted himself in pre/post interviews impressed me just as much as his performance. Seems really grounded and a genuine good man.
