Wouldn't agree with Virgil Hunter. There's no point holding your boxer back for just one particular tournament and not allowing him to compete in the other tourneys because you don't want his style "figured out". He surely wouldn't pass the World championships in 2003 because he didn't want opponents to get the tape on him for the Olympics. Even if he has done that, which makes no sense, it most likely wasn't his decision to have Ward fighting at LHW at the Olympics (and surely not because you want the opponents to underestimate your boxer). The thing is that Andre Dirrell was the top American middleweight amateur prospect at the time. He was the one being talked about and getting the spotlight and focus prior to the Olympics. I don't know if American Olympic team chose Dirrell over Ward to represent them at MW, but Dirrell was regarded the highest out of their 2004 class. It turned out that he only got the bronze and it was Ward who won the gold, but Virgil Hunter's claims aren't right on the spot.
When you beat a myth you become an enigma wrapped inside a riddle inside of a puzzle, which becomes a legend wrapped inside of a mystery and the vagueness of the mystery leaves you in a quandary because you've been bewildered by the complexity of the myth which causes you to be perplexed by the infinitesimal convolution that you feel when trying to understand the mindboggling conundrum of the enigma that you've found yourself wrapped in.:deal
Interesting. It would hardly be the first time Hunter's spoken out of his ass or been extremely liberal with the truth. He's a real whiny hypocritical *****.
Anyone got an answer to this? Is his talk of being undefeated since he was 13 bull****? How could he have only finished 2nd?
I see the similarities but ggg is so many levels above zoo in every aspect. way better flow, better all around skill (by far), better power and chins aren't comparable. couple shots they throw are similar but that's about it really
It was my understanding that Ward chose to compete at light heavy in the 2004 trials because his cousin, Donyil Livingston, was campaigning at middle.
they claim he hasn't lost since he was 12 which is utter nonsense. they mean THEY don't think he lost, ie, should had gotten ALL the decisions no matter what. a loss is not a loss in their book. if he lost but they think he should had won then in their book its not a loss. some people don't live in reality
partially correct, it was more due to dirrel being the dominant mw and ward team knew for a fact he couldn't ever beat andre in the AM's. I don't think they are confident he could actually beat him in the pros either. I would pick direll by tko or ud even now
