Ward handles his business and prepares himself properly for every fight. He knows what he is walking into and he's ready. I think that he will do great and put the division on notice. He don't have run through a bunch of fighters to get where he's going and that's Kovalev and Stevenson. Another fight after Barrera gets him there.

I'd like to add Lucian Bute to that list.

I know that Bute is a Haymon fighter, so it's an unlikely event, but should Bute somehow free himself of Haymons stronghold, he could be a very live dog vs Ward, who has shown absolutely nothing against SPs. :-(

so basically the story reads like this

p4p regarded andre ward, whom has already dominated 168, is moving up to 175 in a quest to dominate and also dethrone another top rated p4p fighter who is also unbeaten

thats basically all that needs to be said...now theres a guy who should be lauded

not guys taking step aside money to fight bum mandos at age 34

    Good thread CST :good

I do wonder if Ward might get a bit of pop from moving up, since he wont be killing himself quite as badly making weight.

At least with his left, I doubt his right ever gets power. Fighting with it injured for so long has likely put a permanent subconscious limiter on how he uses it even if he rationally knows its better.

I agree that Ward has taken on a very big challenge in moving up and if he succeeds he will deserve a lot of credit. I honestly believe Ward at his best has the ability to beat anyone at 175 but of course conquering this division will be difficult because there are also fighters who have the ability to beat him too.

Many people were saying Ward was the best in the world P4P bar Floyd and I was sceptical. If Ward can beat Kovalev etc and establish himself as the #1 at LHW then he would have proven to me that he deserves to be spoken about in such terms.

Not sure I agree. Admittedly I haven't seen enough of some of the EE chaps on your list, but I don't see Ward being overly troubled by anyone at 175 expect Kov and, maybe, Beterbiev.
We'll see. I think he handles Barrera without breaking a sweat. If not, I might have to revise my opinion.
    Good thread though.

The TS is seriously underrating Ward, Kovalev is a toss-up fight and at this point its impossible to say whether guys who have had less than 15 fights can hang with him, these fights ain't happening anytime soon. To me Ward is like Bhop, perceptions of size, i.e. he'll loose cause these guys are bigger than him, are all smoke and mirrors. I'm not the greatest Ward fan and his inactivity suggests he doesn't care much about the sport. But he is still ridiculously talented, we shouldn't forget that no matter how big/strong/technically sound a fighter is a guy who can punch on the sly and master time and distance is very hard to outpoint.
