Ward has only come around to the idea of a rematch recently because it's dawned on him that he has no other options. If you had offered him this fight six months ago he'd have laughed his arse off (and rightly so, he schooled Carl first time). Now though, the last few months he's sat back in Oakland and watched as Froch and Kessler, two guys he beat, have gotten all the big fights and media attention, not him. They've undoubtedly had better years for their careers despite his win over Dawson.

It's only just dawning on him and his promoter Dan Goosen that his career is, to an extent, stagnating because nobody else in the division apart from Froch and Kessler wants to fight him. And I don't blame those fighters. Honestly, what would be the point in fighting Ward if you're currently a 168lbs fighter? He doesn't sell tickets, he doesn't give fans entertaining fights and it's too hard to beat him. There's no incentive there at all really. He's now fighting Kelly Pavilik, a washed-up alcoholic and has-been who's career is in last chance saloon, but has a bit of a name with fans and the media. Froch turned down Pavilik as an opponent because he's now that crap and because Carl knew he didn't need him.

Ward has realised that if he wants the big fights then he needs to come out of comfort zone and fight on somebody else's terms. He's going to have to come to England to fight Froch or go to Denmark to fight Kessler (because both guys have said they're not interested in fighting him in the USA again), those are his only options if wishes to stay relevant with fans.

Ward didn't do himself any favours acting like a diva over the proposed fight with Bute after the S6.

I bet he was sick to the stomach watching Froch smack him around like a rag doll.... millions of dollars vanished before his eyes.

His choices since the win over Froch haven't been the wisest, it must be said.

Froch didn't need Pavlik but he needed Mack? What a pointless fight that was.

Ward is the champion and he doesn't need to go anywhere, Froch should grow some balls and come to USA if he wants to fight ward. He shouldn't have the power to dictate terms regardless of fan power. I also don't agree that Ward doesn't entertain, I find his fights entertaining and sometimes a complete masterclass to watch (Froch vs Ward S6). Do you know how many tickets they sold for the Ward vs. Dawson fight?

It's a shame if a boxer like Ward has to run around to get fights.....

No way will Ward go to England to fight Froch anyone think otherwise is a bigger tool than Nelson , Why would he ? He wouldn't fight outside oaktown for the entire S6 ( Goossen / Leonard done outstanding there get him that deal btw ) what makes people think he would come to defend his titles in the ever increasing capital of world boxing premature stoppages ? NO I'm afraid if Carl wants the fight with Ward he will have to travel there again , IF he does then I see the second fight turning out a carbon copy of their first sadly .

The Mack fight was a bit pointless I'll give you that, Froch was clearly just using him as a stay sharp fight. He would have KO'ed Pavilik just as easily though.

Sorry, but Ward does have to fight somewhere apart from USA if he wants universal respect. For years you Americans slated Calzaghe for not fighting outside his home country, now Ward is doing the exact same thing and all of a sudden it's "he doesn't have to go anywhere. Grow some balls and come to USA."

If you find holding, running, spoiling and headbutting from a fighter entertaining then God bless, it's not my or many other people's cup of tea though.

Ward vs Dawson took place in a 17,000 seater arena in Oakland and it was half full. Something like 7000 - 8000. Ward can't even sell out in his hometown when he's in a mega-fight with a famous fighter like Chad Dawson. Froch though, when he fought a no-hoper in Mack sold out his fight in days (10,000 tickets). If the Nottingham FM Arena had a bigger capacity I'm sure he could have sold up to even up 15,000 - 20,000, even against Mack. If he gets any unification fights next year then they'll have to take place in a football stadium (most football stadiums over here vary from 30,000 to 60,000). Kessler regularly sells over 10,000 tickets in Denmark too when he fights.

Fact is, no matter how talented Ward is as a fighter, he isn't interesting as a personality or a fighter. He's not sellable. If he wants the respect him and and his fans are whining for then he needs to come out of his comfort zon and earn it. Froch fought on the road for years. In USA, Denmark, Finland and even in even Canada next year if the rematch with Bute happens.

Ward can't have it all his own way all the time. You and him need to accept that.

Froch went down in my estimation when he said he was homesick in atlantic city last december. If he was, then ok but don't ****ing say it to the media when speaking about been beaten, just sounds like he is offering an excuse and its lame ****. You think if Pascal or Bute came out with something similar after been beaten in nottingham that Carl wouldn't say a word. He would be the 1st one to rip them to bits in the media.

Froch lost because he wasn't good enough. Simple as that. Even if he was homesick, the best fighters should be able to not let stuff like that affect their performance. If a rematch happens though it shouldn't be in USA, Ward needs to come out his comfort zone.

Can you honestly see Ward crossing the pond to fight either Frochy or Kess Mc ?
