Andre Ward = Conservative Roy Jones

I haven't see all that much of Ward, but his pedigree and Gold medal kinda had me hoping that he was the 2nd coming of Roy Jones. I was hoping to see some great boxing skills and movement. After all, his idols were Ali, RJ and SRL.

Although I'm glad Ward won, it was kinda disappointing to see the way he won. He had some nice combos but I kept thinking how Roy would have landed the hook so easily on Kessler, because Kessler kept his right hand down but Ward didn't seem to have the ability or skill to land it.

It was also kind of disappointing to see Ward not use the kind of broken rhythm that Roy, Ali or SRL would use. Ward seems to have the ability to do it but was far too cautious and just lunge forward for the tie-up.

Its like Ward has the ability to be like Roy but is too conservative to use it. Man I really miss the old Roy.

Ward gives you different looks. That's what I like about him. He'll box you from the outside, but he'll also get close and personal and mug you inside. He switches from conventional to southpaw and back and forth. He has impeccable timing and defense. The kid is the real deal. Only thing lacking is knockout power.

So you're disappointed because he isn't one of the 20 greatest P4P boxers of all time? What exactly did you expect?

Did we watch the same fight??? I thought that late in the fight Ward got careless in an effort to stop Kessler. The commentator kept saying how Ward was giving Kessler chances but Kessler couldnt do anything about it. Jones Jr is isnt, but to say that he was "too conservative" is misleading.

i thought ward was mayweather-esque instead of jones.....not saying he is on the level of mayweather, but they fight similar......his stance is almost a carbon copy of floyd, and ward is not that active of a fight...he has good activity but its not high.......and his defense is superb...

He fights different to Jones imo, I don't see any striking similarities to compare them.

I saw some thing that he did that was somewhat similar to RJ but yeah, I agree, it was too much to hope that he was going to be the 2nd coming of RJ.

I agree also, he does look a little more like Mayweather than Roy.

Ward looks more like Hopkins to me.

Dirrell is the one with the speed and reflexes, ward is pure boxing skill.

Dont ever put Ward in the same sentence as Jones again. He'll never be on Roy's level.

Exactly what I thought as well. Also, the way Ward was ducking that right hand of Kessler it looked exactly like that Mayweather-Marquez fight.
