So let me get this straight: there are people who are dissapointed because Ward tries to base his style on solid boxing skills and fundamentals that will serve him well when he gets older and slower rather than trying to invent a style of his own that might cause him to get his head knocked off once he slows down? Doesn't seem very fair to me. Look, i enjoy watching prime Roy do his thing as much as the next man, but it's not a style that's smart for a young fighter to try and emulate, and Ward seems to be an intelligent dude.
andre ward is good, but he aint no prime roy jones jr. he has got to do alot more to get in to that league. he is a good fighter, but to compare him to roy jones is stuped.
thats cool ive been following him since the olympics he seemed really down to earth in all the interviews ive seen he is classy and doesnt talk shitt i hope he wins the tourney!
Ward is a Bernard Hopkins. Jones isn't as technically skilled as Ward. Jones on the other hand was so fast, so strong, had such good reflexes that he didn't need to keep his hands up or keep his chin down, he could shove his chin in your face and make you miss then knock you down with a hook.
Ward has much of Roy's natural abilities, but fight more like Hopkins. As he further hones that combination - it could become pretty hard to beat (already is).
Andre Dirrell and Jean Pascal fights more like Roy Jones. I would say Ward is a combination of Roy and Hopkins.
I see what you are saying. Some people on this board are just too short-sighted to see it. He isn't as fast or as naturally athletically gifted as Jones is, but I think he has a higher boxer IQ for sure. That will be the reason he wont be put on the canvas by a fighter of Glen Johnson's caliber when he gets to his late 30s in age. lol
Last night on ESPN Classic they had the Montell Griffin fights on.... The way Roy could move and hit and just do anything... I don't know if we'll ever see someone like that again.
