I went back and forth scoring it a point for either guy, so I accept Ward as the close winner. But he has to know it was close enough that there's doubt who the better man is. A true champion in this case should have to want to get back in there to get a clear win and erase doubt. Floyd after Castillo, and on and on, that's how it works. When he says the rematch has to make sense do you think he means he has to make at least the 5 million he did for the first fight? Can Roc Nation afford that after the fight bombed on ppv?
It would be disappointing if Ward retired instead of giving Kovalev the rematch. He'd still be a HOF fighter but that would be it, he needs to prove that he's figured out Kovalev to potentially reach the next level of greatness. Anyone know what would happen to the belts if he retired? Does Kovalev still get a chance to fight for them?
Has to be said that as a person Ward can be as unclassy as he his in the ring, the guy has had lots of opportunities to give Kovalev some credit since his last fight but no he does the classic Ward thing of shoot the messenger ie when folk call him the dirtiest fighter he tells the world it's his opponents and nothing to do with him. I hope this is wrong but somehow I can see it being right as I presume his contract has finished and he now knows that following poor PPV sales he's never gonna be popular with the public, hell at least Floyd had the heart to give his opponents credit and a rematch where he felt he struggled?
It's the arrogance of any top fighter. If Ward clearly won 8 rounds I'm sure he'd be more forthcoming with praise for Kovalev. While in this case in such a close fight if he praised Kovalev it would be taken as an admission that Kovalev should've won. I don't blame Ward for anything he's saying. I'll only have a problem with him if the rematch doesn't end up happening!
Lol Retire omg Insecure a little Can't wait for his d1ck riders to come on here saying if he does it's a great business move a master stroke loool
That tells you all you need to know about Ward, and the Kovalev fight. I expected him to try and get out of the rematch, and it seems he doesn't want to get another court date and obvious loss for breaking contract. Retirement is the only other option it seems, if he really doesn't want to fight Kov again. Biatch move
Haha... I was going to say the same thing I just didn't have the energy to care enough to type it....funny
And I bet he doesn't. If he retires it would be even more proof that Ward knows deep down he lost that fight.
