I agree. I think Ward would try to use his speed and movement against GGG and only hold GGG when necessary. I don't think Ward will actively try to spend the whole fight on GGG's chest. Realisticall Ward should be too big, too fast and too good for GGG but GGG has some skill and so much power that he has a chance. Would be both guys toughest opponent so far.
Idk I want to believe you but Wards clinching bull**** works pretty well. I can't see GGG overcoming that while having to deal with a size disadvantage. That being said, who cares. Ward is retired and I don't give much credit to spoilers that excessively clinch anyway so I don't even really care about that fight.
This fight will not happen for a while. Ward won't want to go down to 160. GGG is not big enough for 168. 8lbs is a lot at that level, ask Arthur Abraham.
Ward doesn't have a big size advantage over Trip G. Ward is 6'0" with a 70 inch reach and Trip G is 5'11" with a 69 inch reach. Trip came in the ring at 173 pounds and Ward comes in at around 175. Say what you want but Trip G is closer to SMW than he is to JMW.
atsch You totally mis the point ! Ward is not going to be there to hit for the those types of punches .
Golovkin hurts people in the clinches. Everybody tries it a few times, but they find out GGG can hurt them with 6" shots. GGG is not going to get outmuscled by a guy his own size. Ward is the same size. Ward hasn't shown that he has the chin to take on the #1 offense. He doesn't have the power to shutdown the #1 offense. However, he is extremely talented, and maybe he can rise to the challenge and show us something that we haven't seen yet.
I'll make a prediction that s Bernard at 168 lbs would beat GGG the alien is in a league of his own especially if he gets passed Kovalev
Checked Boxrec: Ward is just under 6' with 71" reach; Golovkin a hair shorter and a 70" reach Ward loses a lot of speed at 175 They're pretty much the same: 168 This fight needs to made now-forget Cotto
I get what you're saying. I don't feel Ward could make 160 and be viable. That's why I think he is naturally bigger. I think he could carry 175 though. But, I agree he may not carry his current speed up with him. I think he'd be faster than the current LHWs. But, it's his power that will suffer the most at LHW, I suspect. I hope I'm wrong; because, I would love to see him in with Stevenson and/or Kovalev.
Andre ward wins 9 rounds to 3, pretty easy, bigger stronger faster better technically better defense, better in every department except power. Ward pretty easy UD!
Your post reminds me a lot of the variety I remember seeing in the lead-up to Lewis-Tua, particularly your last line. Yes, I understand that there was a huge size advantage that Lewis had that enabled him to avoid being tagged flush, but Ward has other ways of being elusive. I also do not understand why so many people assume GGG would carry his power to 168. Surely he hits hard, and will carry a lot of power with him, but how much? Chances are it would be some fraction of what he currently carries. 95%? 90%? 85% If it is something like 90%, his power, while probably still superb, may not be as menacing at 168 (where I assume he'd face Ward). I suppose that, in rarer circumstances, some fighters move up in weight and gain something in the delivery of their power shots. Perhaps in some instances, a fighter in this case may be able to carry 105-110% of his power into a higher weight class. I think this usually happens with guys who are working too hard to make weight, and I don't think GGG fits that bill. He looks quite comfortable at 160 to me. Now GGG seems extraordinary. If anyone can carry their full proportion of power up into a higher weight class, he may be one of those rarer exceptions. But let's wait and see until he actually exhibits this in a fight at 168 before we fully commit to that assumption. :smoke
