I’d give Ward an A+ in intelligence, toughness, skills and athleticism. His defeat of Carl Froch was a complete domination of a great fighter and finished up a clean out of his division, once thought to be loaded—so he’s taken risks and made it to the mountaintop (I agree he needs to fight away from Oakland, but I think he will do so for the right fights).
He has a mean streak, and he is reductive in his approach, but he’s also a temperate, intelligent and admirable person. Much of his strength is just his strength of character. He’s still relatively young, though I also agree with those pointing out what a shame it is that he is not fighting but litigating. He’ll be ready to take the PFP mantle when the time comes, and there will be a crop of opponents for him, GGG being one.
I am a Golovkin fan too, but Ward is a more complete package, and just bigger. If Golovkin loses to somebody I’ll figure he was bound to sooner or later, but if Ward does I’ll be really surprised. Ward is better. I think he’s the place the GGG train will stop
