I think Ward should take the rematch before retiring. The fight was close and I think the fans want it (hardcore) and every once in a while it would be nice if the sporting side won over the financial one.
You know, a fighter that says: "Fuk it, I don't care about the money, I just want to show that i am the better fighter." As a fan, I don't think that is to much to ask for. This is boxing and I know people can get hurt, but come on.
Man, here we go again. If you don't like a decision because the fighter you wanted to win didn't don't use the "decisions like that have cemented boxing's place in the outhouse of american sports". Guess what, boxing has been fine before you where born and it will continue to be fine once you leave this earth. If it wasn't then you wouldn't have fighters making 100's of millions of dollars.
Clearly won! Wow, this is the first time a boxing judge replied to one of my comments. Could you tells us which other fights you where an official or a judge, I think everyone would love to hear your stories.
Close cards from judges that all scored this round for Ward? I don't much care what they think. Ward's own mom wouldn't have gave him this round. This content is protected
If you didn't catch the sarcasms then let me explain it to you. Good thing you're not a boxing judge because you can't tell the difference between a robbery and a close fight that could have gone either way. If you don't agree with the outcome, fine but don't be biased and say it was a robbery.
Problem with Ward is how much he has earned in his fights since the Super Six. Made tons of money fighting less-than-Kovalev-opposition. He made a killing for the Kovalev fight and the fight flopped big time. There won't be nearly the same amount of money for a rematch. And in his eyes, he would want to get paid more for a second fight. That is what the problem here is. If I had to guess, I'd wager on either: A) the rematch happens, or B) Ward retires and then comes back in two years for another title fight, then likely retires for good after or shortly after that.
Ward doesn't need the money and just like the modern NFL players he can retire--ala Lewis-- and still be respected. He got his lights knocked in that one round and KOV might go all out and really hurt him. Not worth it.
Of course it would have been next to the next challenge Ward doesn't have a rematch clause, I would have wanted a rematch too if that fight was given to Kovalev because it was a close fight and I enjoyed it.
