According to Stephan Larouche ( Buté's coach), the fight with Glenn Johnson is probably the reason. For the first time of his career, Johnson was very cautious from the punching power of his opponent.
I can give to Ward this title. But, the victory over Kessler was a statement, with a touch of controverse ( headbutts) With all his fight at home ( the fight with Abraham in California) ( until the final who was also in his land), the man has the more easy road. The UD over Froch was predictable, not a statement.
1. Donaire - TKO2 Montiel, UD Narvaez 2. Ward - UD Abraham, UD Froch 3. Viloria - UD Miranda, TKO8 Segura 4. Rios - TKO10 Acosta, KO3 Antillon, TKO11 Murray 5. H. Marquez - TKO11 Concepcion, TKO3 Dapudong, TKO1 Concepcion II Honestly, I don't think there is any argument that Ward gets it over Donaire. Both went 2-0. I mean, c'mon? I love Ward and he's had a great year, but is the Abraham win being overrated to a lofty degree? Uh, yes. We don't consider his other wins in the tourney for 2011 just because it ends in 2011... Please, someone disagree with the below reasoning: -Donaire beat a unanimously considered top 10 P4P fighter and #1 guy at 118 in Montiel. Stopped Montiel cold with a KO of the year candidate in round 2. -Donaire beat the long undefeated #1 guy at 115 coming up to 118 for the first time in Narvaez. Narvaez was 3-0 in 2011 title defenses going into fight. Donaire didn't lose a round en route to UD. -Ward beat the #2 guy, best besides himself, at 168 in Froch. Ward lost maybe one or two rounds tops en route to UD. -Ward beat the #8 ranked fighter at 168 in Abraham. Abraham was 1-2 in his last three, winning a combined 4 of the 25 rounds in those three fights. Abraham went on to win 2 or 3 early rounds against Ward, who then cruised to a UD victory.
Ward had his own personal tournament without having to travel to another country, it was fixed in favor of him from the inception. Bute is the best 168 lb. fighter in the world today, it's a shame, but it appears that Ward refused to allow Bute to fight in his personal tournament, and for good reason. Froch is as slow as a turtle, but still was able to hit Ward, Bute would kill Ward........................Ward will refuse to fight Bute, but if it were to happen.......ever...........it would have to be in Ward's home town, with War's personal referee and judges.............watch and see..........should be in neutral territory...............
It should be Viloria. He fougght twice in championship fights as underdog. Miranda and Segura are more than any o0f the S6 that suddenly become S3. Even Donaire has fought more credible opponents this year. But he was the prohibitive favorites in those fights. So, in terms of ranking, it should be : 1. Viloria 2. Donaire 3. Ward
