probs the unbeaten record makes him part of that illustrious SMW company with Ottke. its clear that Froch is at least on par with Joe in most categories now, and its obvious Joe ducked Carl for fear of a loss and not because the Commonwealth champion was below the standard of the rest of his defences (he was actually above them all apart from Kessler at the time). Its nice anyway to have a BritSMW champion who actually makes sequential valid defences rather than con us with a nobody and get booed regularly for it.
You can make a strong case for him being the best SMW ever, he has the 168 lb resume to back up that claim. In the division itself, he probably does have a better resume than Joe C. does- remember the Hopkins fight was up at LHW. I personally don't put too much stock into the Jones fight because at that point RJJ was knocked out cold a couple times within a few years- he was obviously a shell of his former self. Aside from Lacy and Kessler at 168 and I guess Eubank, who else has Calzaghe beaten of note? It does look evident to me that Ward has the better resume at 168 than Calzaghe.
Calzaghe is the greatest by a mile. He retired undefeated. He was a world champion at SMW And LHW. Ward won't go to LHW he is scared, instead he had to beg Dawson to fight at a catchweight. Calzaghe went up to LHW and beat the top guy in Hopkins.
just a couple of kind pointers if English isn't your first language - 1. If you have a crystal ball that's telling you what Andre will and wont do in the future, could you lend it to the rest of us? If you don't have one, then don't talk about what you don't know will or wont happen. Cheers Gypsy Rose-Bane. 2. this is about smw, not LH or FW, so you cant include Barry McGuigan or Butterbean or whoever you want to pick and choose. stick to the topic in future. thx
useful to know so that we can know when to skip his cut and paste failed posts. his alts been and given up.
It would be fair to wait until Ward's career is over. At this point he has a lot of work to do to reach Joe Calzaghe.
Ward has work to do. Hs career defining fight is either kessler or froch- neither of which is a hof'er Slaps has his win against hopkins Rjj is the best of all time Toney is probably the second best of all time, with the best overall boxing skillset of anyone in history Ward has ability but needs the wins for his legacy, at the moment he's becoming anther mayweather
Calzaghe did not duck Froch. We've been through this before. Your whole argument for it hinges upon you manipulating the timeline to wedge Froch into a position he wasn't in at the time. Froch had done nothing, absolutely nothing, to be seen as the opponent Calzaghe had to fight, to be considered the unavoidable opponent Joe had to meet or lose all credibility, when Calzaghe retired, he'd only just reached the world stage with his win over, the equally unproven on the world stage at the time, Pascal and wouldn't fight Taylor until two month or so after Calzaghe had announced his retirement.
Doesn't have the quantity quite yet... Top 5 wins at the weight already surpass Calzaghe's top 5 wins at the weight, however.
Agreed. There is something to be said for compiling all those title defenses and winning all those fights. Longevity is a factor.
I'd put RJJ and Calzaghe and maybe other like Eubank above him atm but he certainly has the potential to better that. I hope the fight with GGG can be organized though, people might start to truly appreciate him then if he wins (I think he would).
