Andre Ward is one crafty guy. Lots of pundits say that he's been looking bad and past his prime, but that's all by design. Ward wants people to think he's going to lose, so he can then look like he's climbed Mount Everest when he beats yet another slower, less slick opponent.

Remember, this is the same Ward who, after fighting robotic sluggers Kessler, Froch, Green, and Abraham, tried to secure a fight with Kelly Pavlik. He wanted no part of fast, slick opponents like Andre Dirrell, Lucian Bute, George Groves and James DeGale. In fact, he avoided all of them at a time when he had the power to fight anyone he pleased.

So now we're just all being fooled again. If Ward had schooled and knocked out the last three bums he fought, we would all be predicting him to beat Kovalev. Instead, most people are speaking of Ward as of a lamb on his way to the slaughterhouse. Kovalev is supposed to be this big, unstoppable force. All show.

It's just another Ali-Foreman, folks. Ward will win this one, just like he won against all of his previous cherry-picked opponents. Ward doesn't fight you unless he has already figured you out and knows he will almost certainly beat you.

I agree except for bootay Bute. Bute was great beating up Canadian journeymen, but fell short against the caveman in Froch. So much for being "slick".

I get what you mean about fighting to his opponents ability but come on please, you really think Ward wasn't trying hard to not look good,I get that he's probably got more in the tank but if anything I thought Ward was pretty downcast about his recent perfomnces.

Give him an oscar for his acting performance in each of his last two fights. During the fight and after in the interviews.

Has ward looked bad? I was quite impressed by his strength and speed as a light heavy against Barrera, he wasn't great but he's a big strong guy who muscles his opponent s around and I thought ward looked stronger.

Ppl do seem to be forgetting how good P4P ranked Andre ward is. I think this fight could go either way, I don't think it will be even, 1 of them will be in full control over it but not sure which 1 it's guna be yet. gut feeling is ward by boring but effective decision

Yea thats what I thought. Ward didnt give his best in his last 3 fights so JDJ and Kova can sleep on him, think they gonna KO him easy. But they not gonna fight the Ward that fought Brand

No, Ward himself was not happy with his performance against Barrera. He's not purposely looking bad (in fact I didn't think he looked that bad personally), it is just that:
    - Ward is a spoiler and therefore how good he looks depends on the quality of his opponent. None of Smith/Barrera/Brand are top class, so Ward's skill in disrupting his opponents didn't look that impressive. The older Floyd was similar, he struggled with a Maidana who wasn't particularly good but schooled Canelo who is a lot better.
    - Ward specializes in making his opponent look bad, not in making himself look good (at least not to casual fans).

It's called being past your prime. There isn't any other way of dressing it up.

There is a reason why Ward has been fighting utter trash and that is because he knows rusty, slow and easier to hit so obviously he didn't want any unnecessary risks.

I already broke down a video of the fight with Berrera where Ward was taking punches he would never have taken in his prime. It just so happened that the bully got bullied. He was getting roughed up by a grandfather. Let that sink in, and my goodness just what on earth is he going to do when Kovalev begins raining down the pain on his temple?

We'll see, I do also sometimes wonder if Ward is past prime. However, he isn't particularly old and neither has he taken much damage.

Nov. 19 will give us a better idea for sure!

You don't have to be a wrinkled shrivelled up old man to be past your prime.

Mike Tyson when he was prematurely released from prison after raping that helpless woman, was merely 28 years old and without question, we can say he was washed up beyond all recognition of prime Tyson.

It's as clear as day that Ward is not the same, not when we witness the likes of Brand and Berrera having periods where they are having their own way with him.

Its called not having the power people think he has, and unable to hurt low opposition unless they are tired.

Nahhhh. I don't believe any of this bull****.

Ward beats anybody in that wall of text 10/10. So does Kovalev. They are very well matched and that is one of the things that has me more excited for this fight than any since...I don't even know off the top of my head.
