Yeah good call the best fights are usually where the only guy you can see beating each are the two that have been matched if that makes sense? That said in that div there's Beterbiev who is the Unknown really?
It´s very even fight or at least, it seems that way. Ward hasn´t really face tough competition in years. Possible reasons; 1. He might still rehabilitate his shoulder 2. He wants to move up super slow (building muscle and strength) 3. He is testing new "vitamins" in order to learn his body and the most effective way to gain advantages. 4. He got old and knows his prime is behind him. Hence, he is milking his promoter, TV companies, sponsors and fans.
Another thing about this fight is their respective records are very close in terms of wins and no losses and their ages are more or less the same, physical attributes again like height and reach are again more or less identical which just makes it even more a great match up. That said I heard Paulie say that Kovalev is the bigger guy on the account that Ward has gone up in weight class to light heavyweight?
Sure. Makes sense to me. Regarding Beterbiev, I've only seen him once or twice on one of the prospect showcase shows. B.A.D. or Showbox, maybe. I just kinda' remember him as a bit stiff, but getting a brutal KO? Like he just blew the other dude right out. Seems like folks talk about him having a very respectable amateur pedigree. Would be awesome for the division if he was on Ward/Kovalev level.
He is on that level if you fight him on the inside. He can still box, but he does his best work on the inside and he is great at making you fight his fight. I think Kov has a better shot against him than Ward does despite Ward being better on the inside than Kov because at least Kov can also threaten Beterbiev with his power while Ward simply cannot. That is a fight that is probably going to happen next year.
I tend to agree, stylistically Beterbiev is all wrong for Ward. Ward, if he wins against Kovalev, should go for Stevenson after Kovalev.
Yeah...I'll have to see more of him to believe any of that. I would also opine that regardless of whether it's Ward or Kovalev that wins, if Beterbiev is all that, he'll have to prove it and that will consume next year and maybe more. Also, regardless of who wins, there will be major butthurt if said victor (I'm leaning Ward, btw) doesn't wake up the next day and sign a contract to fight that pimp from Quebec.
You are guy who claims to live in Russia and to have told everyone you knew how Hopkins was going to "school" Kovalev. How have all your "Russian friends" reacted to this latest crusade?
No, wishful thinking to say he looked bad deliberately. Also far too dangerous a game for any top pro to play. I would say that he was quite happy to get the rounds under his belt against Brand, and could have finished that fight earlier if he so wished.
