Andre Ward has nothing more ever to prove. If he wants to retire, then that's great.

yeh but id imagine kovalev would have done the same even if he had 'won' *he did, but then again kovalev wouldnt be trying to avoid a rematch. he'd be right in there ready to do it again.

Kovalev wouldnt need to convince himself, as he has the support from Hall of fame judges, other boxers, the entirety of Mainstream Western media and experts that he won. Even the referee thought he won, Kovalev looked confident as well.

yeh kovalev won by 3points 7-5 + KD, but im saying if he had lost like ward did but got given the decision, i still think he would be trying to convince himself he won. but he wouldnt be ducking no rematch.

i didnt even see a close fight myself, kovalev took it relatively easily. wards work was sporadic even late on, he did take rounds because kovalev wasnt pushing it, and he was already 5points behind going into the 5th. kovalev won the 10th, 12th, and the 6th i think.

scrap that kovalev won by 3points. 115-112

    HELL NO!

Ward has to honor that rematch, and take the loss like a man!

As somebody who doesn't like Floyd, I have to tip my hat to him for taking the hard rematches. Respect where it is due.

If that's the case then maybe he should have chosen a less macho profession to ply his trade in. But sure, let him retire, and field questions for the rest of his life to the effect of "Hey coWard, why did you never rematch Kovalev?" If it bothers him that people rightly question his win over Kova, then he'll LOVE that.

    It's a pity, really.

If he'd said straight up after that fight "I think I won, but it was damn close. I don't want to win in a controversial manner, I want to clearly show I am the best 175 man on the planet. Sergey, you better give me a rematch." his stock would have gone through the roof and people (including me) would be praising him as an Old School Hardass, even if we don't particularly like his fighting style.

Right now he's coming across as a child.

Retirement is always a good decision for a boxer. Like Michael Nunn said when they asked him if it hurt him when the fans booed him running...

"The fans ain't takin' no punches."

Borderline hof'er, although he has some good accomplishments, as "great" as people make his resume out to be, if you look closely, it is a bit thin, and he did squander a lot of his prime.

And I was a huge Ward fan after the Froch fight.
