I know. I have to meet dodgy Dave at the back of the local store and drop him a 10 to become this detached from reality. Who expected Ward to stay down? As soon as Hop lasted 12 rounds with Kov I expected Ward to do the same. There was no upset against the odds. Ward was a slight favourite with the bookies and media. There was no 'Russian monster'. I know he wants his Ali Foreman moment but this wasn't it. This guy is not only a turn off inside the ring, he is now a turn off outside the ring. If every boxer fought like Mr Ward, I wouldn't be in this forum.

PS Happy Christmas to all that celebrate :) even Ward fans lol.

Think kovalev fan's need to move on now, yeh it was close, but in a rematch ward can only get better, and won't have a bad start like that again, so don't know how kovalev could beat him

Kovalev already beat him if anything he stops him in a rematch. Ward looked like a journey man in that fight he is nothing.

They should rematch in neutral venue and judges.

Ward did win it was a close fight he was dropped give him a rematch. Talks are that Kovalev might drop JDJ which is a good choice. both can improve in a rematch better conditioning for kovalev would go a big way. in slower parts of the fight throwing most punches and not putting everything on it. kind of like what he did in round 4.

there are 6 that ward won for sure. round 12 was the only swing round.
no issues giving the fight close to Kovalev esepcially with the knockdown.

I'd question the "schooling" description....I had Ward winning 114-113

I think what kept the fight in proper perspective for me was receiving the opinions of other hardcore fans and some casuals in the room that both agreed to progressive climate change that Ward initiated after being knocked down. Everyone agreed that SK was still dangerous and boxing well though Ward seemed to be controlling the pace, while gaining confidence and SK's frustration and confusion grew. It was a difficult fight to judge however at no point in the fight did I see Ward veer off his strategy other than being knocked down, I couldn't say the same for SK....he seemed to lose focus on many occasions even attempting to initiate clinches at strange junctures within the bout....it looked awkward and unnatural for him. The punch stats didn't help much with such marginal/trivial variances like SK landing less than 10 or so more punches and Ward landing at a higher accuracy rate.....you can't build a strong enough argument with that data while combining it with what transpired in the ring.

I certainly hope a rematch does happen, I'm a boxing junkie so I loved every minute of the fight.
