Andre Ward is a better prospect then Berto, Lee, Duddy and Dirrell

This guy is WAY under rated on these forums. A fighter who one the GOLD medal fighting at the light heavy weight limit. Has moved down to super middle weight, and who has been impressive. His chin is shakey, but is skills are silky smooth. Technically, he is very tight. He has a very nice jab, throws snappy combinations and is quite tight defensively. Probably the only thing missing from his game is true combination punching ability.... I think as he really steps it up he will fight more like FMJ then RJJ.. But the guy is good.

Due to inactivty, he lost the spot light for a long time. But he is coming off a string of impressive victories now, and seems to have really settled into the pro game. He is sitting down on his punches more, he has tightened up his punches, and his defense as well.

So why do i believe he is a better prospect then Berto especially?? Because IMO Berto is technically not quite as good. IMO Berto is trying to rely more on his natural gifts, which i don't believe will be enough against the top guys. I have trouble seeing Berto beating any of the top guys at welter, even though he has progressed more in his career at this point then Ward.

I can definitely see Ward (with more experience) beating the likes of Bute, Mundine, Inkin and Bika. Potentially i can even see him topping Mikkel Kessler. He has so many more facets to his game then Kessler does, although he needs to prove himself far more before i would ever make such a claim.

In terms of technical ability though, he is very sharp, and i have no doubt he will make some noise in the SMW division. He has been seemingly working very hard in the gym, and has improved as a pro since earlier in his career. I believe the problems with his chin, were more to do with him making amatuer like mistakes, which he has now stopped doing. Things like leaping in to much, and throwing punches without caution of what was coming back at him.

What are your thoughts on him as a prospect, especially from those who have seen his last 3 fight???

he is underated on this forum but not underated, they did a sports illustrated article on the guy so he's no secret. However everyone seems to be pushing Berto these days but that Ward guy ain't so bad himself.

Andre Berto is the WBA interim Welterweight Worldchampion of the World
Lee is the WBO Middleweight Worldchampion
Dirrell is going to fight for the vacant IBF Super Middleweight Worldchampionship
And only John Duddy turned out to be a dud (if you didn't see that coming)

And where is Andre Ward ranked right now? Eh? :bart

I think the first time I saw him was against Walid Smichet nd I thought he lost clearly. That left an impression but yes that was a very good fight.

    Spot on post.

Though I must confess, seeing the above quoted line in a post from 2008 was pretty funny. The more things change, the more they stay the same I suppose.
