Just before I start, I want to say it was a great night in British boxing history last night. We got to witness an event of a truly epic scale and I'm so glad it involved Carl Froch, as he epitomizes everything I love about the sport. What bothers me however is that the first thing I come to read when checking ESB today is some bitter American professing that because Froch hasn't 'beaten anyone of note since losing to Ward' (Biggest load of bull**** I have EVER heard) that he should fight Ward next. First off, what the hell has Ward done to even be relevant any more? 2 fights in 3 years or so against Chad Dawson's corpse and the over-matched Edwin Rodriguez does not in any way compare to beating the likes of an unbeaten (and at the time P4P ranked) Lucien Bute, Mikkel Kessler, Yusef Mack and George Groves TWICE. Froch is ruling the Super Middleweight division while Ward is sat bitching because he cant get his own house in order. Andre Ward is no longer relevant in a P4P sense or even in the super middleweight picture, and I cant see why anyone would see otherwise when the real number 1 in the division is doing his thing time and time again.
You might be right in the sense about what has Andre Ward done in the last couple of years but Kostya Tszyu was rated as no1 before Ricky Hatton beat him but Kostya's form was almost identical to Andre Ward's!! A couple of fights and injuries stopping him boxing more regular. the fact is that Andre Ward is head and shoulders above Carl in ability and boxing brain and although a Carl Froch fan I can't see him ever beating Ward!! There are other fights out there that can make Carl good money without getting totally outboxed!! Carl should look at fights with Degale and Julio Caesar Chavez jnr and maybe thing about retiring after them.
When you are the number 1 in the division you can never be irrelevant. But Froch doesn't need Ward in the financial sense, but if he's talking about fighting in Las Vegas then why not fight award instead of Chavez jr?
Wards dull to watch. Dirty. Holds too much. Has no personality. Much more prefer to see an exciting fight against Chavez in Vegas.
The fight won't sell in my opinion. People will not get interested in a fight that appears to be already won on paper. Ward would probably win it easier than the first time without any risk. Froch doesn't want it anyway. Ward is a "boring git" as Froch once said, in the ring anyway. I think Ward is very good and has a high boxing IQ but I don't think he is unbeatable. He's not really fought anyone who could be considered a really slick or technically brilliant. The likes of Kessler and Froch are top level but limited in some respects as there two wars show. Dawson had to be drained at 168. I have to be honest I just can't get excited about seeing him fight unless Golovkin moves up or he challenges Kovalev. Even then it would be more about the other fighter. Ultimately Froch will have 'exhibition' style fights... Chavez, Golovkin maybe. Bit like Calzaghe did with Hopkins and RJJ. Personally, I think he should retire, very wealthy and winning a war with Chavez won't mean much anyway as he is not really rated as a top level. Golovkin would be an impressive win but probably won't happen and there would only be excuses that Froch was too big etc. Don't think he wins that fight though.
