Ward is fighting a small super middleweight at a 172 catchweight that an old and uninterested AA recently beat twice.

Ward fans will be on here Saturday night saying what a superb victory it was, how great Ward looked considering he has been out the ring so long, it will be embarrassing and ridiculous.

Where on earth are you getting this 183 lbs from? Or that Paul has only had 5 fights at MW or under? Or that he's had more fights at SMW than MW? Or anything you're saying? :huh

Here are Paul's # of fights at each weight for his whole career going into the Ward bout.

    Total Fights: 40
    SWW: 7
    MW: 18
    SMW: 13
    LHW: 2 (Weigh-ins: 172 lbs, 173 lbs)

Anyone who has followed Smith's career will be keenly aware of how long the talk of him being a MW who is fighting out of his natural weight class has been going on. It's been a widely held criticism of him for a long time and a regular feature in threads about him. He's admitted in the past that the only reason he fights at SMW is because he's a greedy guts who can't control his eating habits. He's blamed numerous of his loses on him not being a natural SMW.

'Smith has been keenly matched this weekend though.

Tanzanian super-middleweight champion Francis Cheka, who has lost just three times in 17 starts, should prove a tough proposition at the Bolton Arena.

The 25-year-old is six months older than Smith but half an inch shorter, and like the Kirkdale puncher, is a natural middleweight who has been boxing up at 12 stone.'

@BoltonTerrier Middleweight is my natural weight. I had better opportunity at Super Middle so went for it. Back to 160lb now

A couple of threads from Brit forum regarding Smith's weight, but like I said talk of his weight has always been a regular feature in threads about him.

Why are people calling Paul Smith a "fat middleweight"?

To be fair I've also heard him say he is a natural SMW before though too.

    Seems like it :nod

I just hate when people are this lazy about facts. The funny part is I know exactly how he arrived at "5 MW fights". He went on Paul's boxrec and looked at every bout that was listed as being for any version of a MW title, there are 4. He then tacked one on to make it seem like that wasn't what he did. It's lazy, it's misleading, it's agenda-driven and it's unnecessary. Andre's a great fighter who has been out a long time. He's entitled to a tuneup. Paul's a SMW now, no doubt about it. I very much doubt he could make 160 any more. But he IS a small SMW who fought most of his career at 160 or below. No need to make this out to be anything it's not. It's a perfectly acceptable tune-up fight after 18 months away from the ring. That's all.

Regarding Ward and Hunter saying they need a tune up. It's bullsh*t. The reason Ward is taking this fight is because he wants an easy out because he has a massive persecution complex and feels that everyone is always picking on him. He's always whinging about how hard he's had it and I've heard him complaining about how he feels he deserves an easy fight a number of times before. That's fine but just ''be honest with the fans'' about it, Dre. :rofl

He was out for 14 months prior to facing Edwin Rodriguez and he looked very sharp and displayed no signs of ring rust at all. Many of the post-fight reports mentioned that too.

When he first moved up there's no doubt he was a MW fighting at SMW for 2 reasons.
    1.) He ate too much.
2.) It's a good time for British SMWs and the biggest fights he could make against the best competition, with the highest purses of his career were at SMW against two prospects us Brits were very excited about in GG and Chunky.

By now, I think he's a SMW. A small SMW, but one who would struggle mightily to cut to MW again at his age.

Maybe but the criticism is is that he's always looked soft and fleshy at SMW.

Ward is a good boxer very skilful, but so is Kovalev. After what he did to Behop, totally outboxing him i don't think Ward is going to find it very easy. Yes Bhop is old but still a very skillful boxer. Ward has no real Power at SMW, so there is no way he's hurting Kovalev at LHW, plus Kovalev is naturally bigger. Kovalev beats him at LHW IMO.

Smith is now a SMW...has been for a while.

But Ward is coming in over 185 on fight night. He fought in AMS at 175.

There's no good... Thoroughly tested SMWS to fight aside from Zurdo and it seems he's kindof lost when his opponents chin don't cave.
Dre Dirrel seems to be back and even better but he's been robbed again, so there's another non-fight for Ward.

His body is on a LHW/CW frame.

If he refuses to fight GGG at 164-165....he needs to pi$$ off to LHW and duck Kovalev.

He'll probably still call out GGG

Man up Ward. Get your ass to 175 and fight the juggernauts you're so terrified of
