Floyd has stepped up later in his career vs Ward doing it early on. Rodriguez was merely the best option in a division Ward had already cleaned out. But Alvarez wasn't really a great win for Floyd. It was decent. The catch weight took some of the luster off the victory. .......wrong or not.....just like it did when Pac destroyed Cotto at a welterweight catch weight title fight. Just like it did when Ward dominated Chad. In my opinion all were great wins only because I believe in catch weight fights between elite boxers who come from different divisions. ......but now catch weight fights have a negative connotation whenever they come up in boxing these days.
No he's not. Mayweather has proven himself in multiple weight divisions and beaten guys bigger than him. Canelo is probably a better win than any of Wards wins.
Nelo is not a better win than Ward over Kessler, Froch or Dawson. Nelo was a very good wi. For Floyd but no where near his best win which was over DLH. Alvarez was inexperienced even though he had over 40 pro fights......most of those wins were in MX against very questionable opposition. His win over Trout was his only real competition before he was called to be a Floyd opponent. Other than thst he had guys like Cotto and Hatton's brothers. Nelo was just a popular name that would boost PPV numbers for Floyd.
Floyd beat Carlos and Genaro Hernandez, Angel Manfredy, Corrales and Castillo all before the age of 25. He won fighter of the year at age 30. So it's not like he just starting fighting top guys. And if Alvarez wasn't a great win, then what type of win was Rodriguez for Ward? Both are fighting top guys, but Floyd has been doing it much longer.
I disagree. Dawson has been been flattened by Stevenson recently so that doesn't look like a great win. Kessler doesn't seem any better than Alvarez p4p and isn't naturally bigger than Ward like Canelo is bigger than Floyd. Canel is one of the best at 154lb Kessler is/was one of the best at 168lb. Very comparable wins imo. Froch is very lacking technically and is/was even worse than Kessler and lost to him. I agree Floyd has many good wins. Some better than Canelo but even Canelo is probably a better win than Ward's wins considering the size difference and how he is/was ranked in his division &p4p. Absolutely better than Froch. Canelo was the bigger man vs Floyd as well as having fast hands and more skill than Froch.
Castillo, Hernandez and Manfredy were all very good wins for a young phenomenon like Floyd. His 2nd best win was his destruction of Diego butt those other guys were more speed bumps compared to the mountain that DLH represented in Floyds resume. Ward started his career late and took off very slow...... but exploded all of the sudden taking huge leaps in terms of "stepping up" in a respectively young career. He was handled very well as he made the transition from AM to pro. Floyd was brought along very well himself but ultimately his resume is not what it could have been based on who makes up his opponents during the beginning and middle part of his career. With that said......Floyd has a great career which only a truly great fighter could accomplish. He is without question the best oure boxer and most successful of our generation. Not to mention he is of course. ....undefeated. I will be the first to acknowledge his greatness but will also be honest about not having a resume that matches his level of greatness in terms of ability, talent and skills.
I respect your opinion. Froch however came back to beat Kessler and while I agree that Carl isn't a great technical boxer.....he is a craft, experienced fighter with loads of grit. Dawson is mentally in decline and physically as well. The way he beat Nard proved he was a truly great fighter at his very best. Losing to Ward definitely hurt his psyche given just how one sided it was. I think his ko loss to Stevenson would have been a different outcome had Chad never met Ward in the ring. The fact Nelo was so much bigger gave the fight legitimacy for Floyd. But the outcome wasn't really a surprise for most semi knowledgeable boxing fans. Ward.....even though it was Rodriguez across the ring from him last night.....ended fighting a cruiserweight. So Ward has more than proven the ability to off set considerable size disadvantages against top level competition as well. The big difference in these comparison comes down to experience. Floyd had tons of experience fighting Nelo where Ward was getting his fighting the very best in his division when he took part in those super middleweight tournament eliminators. Before then Ward was fighting very low level competition once a year.....sometimes longer. His leap up in competition vs Floyd's stepping down is factored in with my assessment. It's a knife that cuts both ways for Floyd. Being as great as he is and not having more great fighters on his resume will always be something that comes up....but again.....it really won't matter if he never loses as a fighter.
What has Canelo really done ? For Froch's crude boxing he's more accomplished than Canelo ! And as far as Canelo's skill again what has he really done ? The guy is not as proven as the Cobra ..He barely scraped by against Trout what else is there ? And for all his size and skill he couldn't even impose any of it against Floyd ..
And for all Froch's accomplishments, toughness and experience he couldn't even impose any of it against Ward. That's what happens when you fight someone much better than you. Canelo may not have accomplished much yet but that's just because he's young. Before the super 6 ward was young and hadn't accomplished much but that didn't mean he wasn't better than Kessler. Remember Froch lost to Kessler, could easily have lost to Dirrell and got out-boxed for many rounds against Jermaine Taylor, so based on that, I think if Canelo was as big as Froch he would beat him. Obviously it's impossible to say for sure but looking at their attributes and skill sets, that is my opinion.
It is not just about who has the better resume which is Floyd for sure. But also The way in which they win. Floyd has a cleaner more fluid style than Ward. Floyd does not use the rough tactics that Ward does. Floyd makes people miss on the inside where Ward clinches and is very good at getting off coming out of the clinch.
Im a Floyd hater but he's better than Ward in all categories and he weight drains his opponents by 2 lbs only imagine if Floyd had forced Nelo to fight at 147, what a joke of a fight would be Ward would have done it
Froch vs Ward was nowhere near as one sided as Mayweather Alvarez ..Lets make sure we get that clear .. Does Canelo have better technique than Froch yeah but who's been more effective against quality oposition ? Froch has proven it on more than one occasion Alverez has looked like crap in his last 2 outings !
Because Ward is nowhere near as good as Floyd. And to be honest both got schooled badly. Froch has looked like **** numerous times also. Canelo only lost to the p4p best on the planet.
