The thread starter wants to come off as a boxing scholar, he wants us to say "man, you really study boxing". You're a bore fella, we've seen this act a million times, come up with a new gimmick or even better, just relax.

    1. Ooooh, going against the grain, seeing something we're not seeing. You're a bore...
    2. technical =/= by the book
    3. this is a matter of the meaning of the word techincal
    4. Why do you say it's going down hill and give me an example when he was or could have been caught backing up
5.What bones do you have to pick with his punch execution

    Apologies your logic is befuddling.

I thought from your post that you were somehow bragging about oakland having a high murder rate.

A fighter doesn't have to be a stand-up one-two guy to be a technician. By that definition Kelly Pavlik would be the best ****ing technician in the world. Bernard Hopkins, Joe Louis - those are technicians. Neither of them relied overly on the jab, and neither of them stood straight up. Hopkins actualy spent most of his nights out-manoeuvering opponents on the inside, and he may have been the greatest technician who ever lived.

Secondly, your analysis of Ward is totally wayward. Ward isn't particularly "unorthodox" anyway. Roy Jones was unorthodox. Everything he does is classical. Pinpoint balance, head off centre, textbook hand positioning, getting into correct defensive positions up close, technical defence. Not many fighters fight inside nowadays, but that doesn't make him "unorthodox" or non-textbook in any real sense.

And enough of the infantile derogations, thanks.

Ward is, behind Floyd Mayweather & Chad Dawson, the best American technical fighter in the sport, but none of the above mentioned fighters match the highly precise and technical styles of the following fighters:

You're offended because I've pointed out a few home truths about your hometown fighter?

The jury is clearly out for a long long lunch on Ward until he fights somewhere other than his home town.

You must be able to appreciate this, even if he is your local man? He is the true definition of stay at home joe.

Chad Dawson isn't as versatile as Ward. He can fight excellent on his backfoot, but he's not nearly as adept at putting on pressure.

That's right. My entire life is spent chasing approval from unknown people on a boxing board on the internet. Or I just think Andre Ward is the best technical fighter in the world today, was impressed with his performance and thought I'd give an analysis of it.

You didn't have to post in here.

Not quite, no, but it's certainly related. "Technical" doesn't just mean "skilled".

    Partially.

He's much more flat-footed, heavy on his feet and less mobile at 147 (especially in the last few years) compared to the lower weights. That's a pretty big issue, especially against somebody like Pacquiao.

Against Marquez he was caught backing straight up to the ropes (with his arms out, Dirrell-style, IIRC) by a right hand.

He doesn't extend his punches properly, especially the right hand which is sometimes flicked as an arm punch more than anything. He also has a habit of jumping in and squaring up when throwing the left hook. Ward has some issues in this department also, though. Like I said in my OP, I'd like to see him just box solidly from the outside a bit more.

I could not disagree more about technical boxer, i have never heard anyone calling him techician at all. He may be soon the best boxer if not already. but sorry, he just doesnt strike me at classical technical boxer.

WArd would ko him in 3.

but honest did Joe ever meet guy like Ward? i dont even like Ward but he is a beast.

I laughed my ass of when someone called Ward "Son of Ruiz" which was funny as hell. But Ward can do everything at ring.
