Andre Ward is the most overrated fighter in boxing!

I agree he should never be mentioned in the same sentence as Floyd Mayweather and Bernard Hopkins.

 

He has some good wins over Froch and Kessler and some solid wins over Bika, AA, and Dawson which would have been a good win he wasn't forced to drain down in weight. Winning the Super 6 was significant it proved he was the best in a competitive division.

But these achievements alone do not make him a great fighter. He's only made 6 defences of a title, would be 7 but his last fight was a catch weight. His reign as a champion at super middle is surpassed by a number of other previous champions.

I am a fan but I will not pretend that the fans view of him has not declined dramatically with his activity level and his first year back doesn't bode well for Ward facing top opposition anytime soon.

He has become irrelevant, the super middleweight division has moved on and now champions like DeGale are not looking to him for a fight because he is irrelevant despite being number 1. If Groves beats Jack, I see a unification fight with DeGale to be more likely than either of them to face Ward which would mean less money and the need to travel. Why would Groves and DeGale fight Ward if they make more fighting each other at home, so basically who needs Ward?

Also if Golovkin's next fight pulls in decent PPV numbers why would they need Ward. It's Ward who would need GGG to get the kind of payday he clearly craves.

Ward needs to fight more often, needs to raise his opposition and needs to make the Kovalev fight they are apparently negotiating, because Kovalev is the only opponent that seems to want the fight because nobody else needs him.

He is alot of things as far as im concerned. Boring, uninspirational, etc etc. But he isnt overrated. He is a bitmof a wasted talent he should out there taking the heads of anybody who claims to be the best smw or moving up in weight like he threatens to do.

I think Ward doesn't care to fight the best anymore and is happy fighting bums for less money.

 

He got 2 million for Smith, and 2.5 million for Rodriguez. Not sure he even made that for his super six bouts. He only made 1.3 million for the Dawson fight. Why take the risk?

 

Exactly when you can $2 mil to fight Paul Smiths. **** it!! The son of the almighty doesn't need tons of cash.

 

Rumour has it he earns quite a bit on the side in a water-to-wine racket.

 

But I have a feeling at one point during his contract with Roc Nation they will try and force him to fight Kovalev. Even if he resists it.
