Gary Shaw issued the challenge through Chad. Ward tweeted at the end of the night, "Dawson was told to say my name". Sounds like Shaw absolutely wanted to put Chad on HBO's schedule, given the fact that Cloud-Pascal will probably happen in August (doubt that Campillo interests him).

    I respect that.

As for the weight. Dawson is the one who said he'd be willing to go down to 168. That's on him.

In the bay area and Ward is known there.

I think he drew 5k with Kessler, who nobody in the states knows.

I think it will do 8K or better.:thumbsup

Dawson called out Ward and said he could make the weight, and accepted the fight so we can't say it's on Ward for it being at 168. Does make me wonder what his plans are for going up in weight though...

    Proven wrong, really?

1- I said that Ward brought Dawson down to 168.
2- You said he doesn't bring Dawson down, and you used a fighter's quote as an argument.
3- I said alright then, if a fighter's quote can be used as an argument, what about Ward's quotes about Bute being the only challenge for the S6 winner?

Anywayz I didn't want to turn this into a Bute thread, I just wanted to show you that Dawson's quote means f-all, the contracts are negociated between promoters, not between fighters.

BUT I agree Dawson shot in his foot when he mentioned being able to go down to 168.

One of the many reasons the Bute fight won't happen IMO

No complaints here. Coming off the S6 tourney, Ward could've easily taken an easy fight and rightfully so. It's a good matchup...NOT GREAT but still a treat. Would you rather see Ward against a bum or a solid title holder in Dawson who could still be strong at 168? Ward will eventually fight Bute. In the meantime it's pretty damn nice to see Ward taking on a guy who isn't easy work for anyone.

Awesome fight! Credit to both fighters. Even at 168lbs, Dawson will be a force. If he can beat Hopkins, he should at least make it very competitive against Ward. I actually have Dawson the slight favourite, properly and fairly refereed and judged. I think Dawson has been getting underrated whilst Ward has been getting overrated. But I can see why Ward has decided to agree to the fight too. Dawson will be Ward's hardest fight to date, imo. Ward will be younger, fresher, faster and stronger than Bhops, but he won't be smarter or trickier or more dirty.

Bute is in many ways an easier fight for Ward. One thing about Dawson, though - he doesn't knock people out - Bute is more dangerous from that point of view.

:huhAgain, how did Ward drag Dawson down to 168 when he volunteered to drop the weight?? You're trying to use the quotes from Ward like its similar to what Dawson issued to Ward like its going to do you some justice.

You're pretty much comparing apples to oranges.

I agree it's still a solid match up, but even though Dawson often said he could make 168, he grew into a full light heavy. I'm not sure he'll be as effective but hey, we shall see on sept. 8!
