Ottke benefited from a fair bit of home cooking but he became so synonymous with the term most didn't even care to watch for themselves. People just assumed every close decision he got was crooked but that actually wasn't the case.

 

The Reid fight was such a farce that it ended up overshadowing his own career outside of his home country.

He didn't collect alot of scalps, they were given to him with the supersix. Not to say he's not super skilled, he still had to beat them, point is they were under contract to fight. He has yet to do anything outside of that, still waiting for that Kovalev fight which considering Ward is to get another fight after Barrera, will likely only happen in 2017.

 

Legends will be made of Andre's run as champion.

Ra's Al-Ghul have you watched Ottke v Reid, Reid was warned for actually landing a punch on Ottke's face.
Every time Reid landed a decent punch the ref would step in, stop the action sometimes warn Reid.
Terrible fight caused by a terrible ref.
It sounds so crazy but its true, must have been some rule in Germany at the time that you cannot punch the champion legally.

 

Its not fair to compare the two fighters.
Ottke is a SMW legend and in my opinion in the top 3 SMWs of all time.
Ward has left SMW and although had a good SMW run possibly wouldnt make the SMW top 10 even if there are some fighters rated higher who he may have been able to beat. I couldnt imagine him in the SMW top 5.
Yes Ottke was a very active champ with a great resume

Different eras I guess. I cant recall off the top of my head how many of those were mandatories for Ottke, but I dont think Ward fought a mandatory
