Ward told Jim Lampley on his HBO Fight Game show last Saturday night

    Andre Ward:

“I don’t think so [getting a fight with Sergio Martinez] for the moment due to the weight difference and size difference''.

All the talk from the Martinez camp is that Ward has to come down to 160. I think they mentioned 164. But I’m not sure how much longer I’m going to be at super middleweight. For me to get down to 160 or 164, I wouldn’t be any good at it. It wouldn’t be good for my career.

''So at the moment I don’t realistically think that fight [against Sergio Martinez] is going to be made. I think I would be very strong at the weight [175]. I’m not even the biggest super middleweight, so I know the fighters at light heavyweight would be even bigger. But I know the ideal situation is to go to 175 and not come back down. There’s not a lot of options at 168. So in the coming weeks my team and I need to put our heads together and get creative in terms of what’s going to be next.”

Ward needs to keep letting bigger guys come down in weight to fight him, in Oakland.
It wouldn't be fair to Ward to cut down to 160.

Unless Martinez goes up in weight.
That would be a great fight too.

Dawson issued the challenge himself and said he could make 168lbs. Ward didn't make him do ****, and he never once has said the he coud make 160lbs or is challenging guys from that weight.

It might appear hypocritical of him (only a little, and even then it was Dawson that chased him for a fight), but I don't see anything wrong with what he's saying. Likewise, there's nothing wrong with Martinez not wanting to go up to 164/168, either.

Thank you! Why the fffffff is it so hard for people to understand that?! Ward ONLY needs to go down if he wants the MW crown, but why want that when you're the SMW king?

Because Ward said it probably wouldn't be healthy for him to do so.

Dawson issued the challenge and said 'I want Andre Ward, I can still make 168, lets to this'

Why do people have a hard time understanding this?

Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out.

Yeah, but anyone who knows anything knows that Andre is, BY FAR, the better boxer. A real "P4P" ranking would list Andre ahead of Sergio!

You posted the quote. Why don't you read it and let it fu*king go.

"For me to get down to 160 or 164, I wouldn’t be any good at it."

Can he be any more clear on why he does not want to drain himself? If Chad, or other fighters want to play the weight drain game, that's on them. Especially if they lose. If they can do it and win, good for them too.
