An 8-4 fight plus a knockdown is not a fight that could have gone either way.

So much this. Also the concept of rematches to correct big mistakes like these is ridiculous, in most of the cases the damage is already done. It's a big difference if you go into a rematch as a recognised winner or if you feel cheated. It is a different fight, ergo not the right tool to right a wrong.

We see it time after time, and in almost all cases history prioritizes what happened on paper over what actually happened in the ring, and even most fans react that way.
What most even seem to forget is that in this case there might never even have been a rematch, because the clause was one way and it wasn't much of a financial succes either due to the high purse for Ward. If the outcome had been what most people viewing saw happen, then a) Kovalev had beaten Ward by close but clear UD including a KD, b) Kovalev would probably have been promoted to #1 P4P at the time, c) a possible later Alvarez win over undefeated Kova had been so much bigger for the man.

Yes, a rematch would not have been a necessity, it was a clear enough win for Kovalev to move on. And everything after that fight would have been different, I doubt he would even have fought Alvarez at that time.
GGG is in the same boat and these are just the guys on the biggest stage, it also happens to lots of lesser known fighters.

Ward isn’t a bad guy but it’s easy to act humble when you got the verdict in your favor. As someone posted early on - a picture is worth a thousand words- his expression says it all - he knows he lost.
Any non biased judging cant come up with 7 rounds to give Ward. I can’t it and I find it ludicrous all 3 judges awarded him the 10th round a round I believe Kovalev should of swept on the scorecards.
Best I can find is 7-5 Kovalev for Ward and even if I gave him another round he still loses.
This was a hometown fighter getting a hometown call which is terrible to get in a major matchup this isn’t some touted prospect getting the call in an up and coming bout that was closer than it should of been.

Didn't they fight again? Oh yea that's right kova got knocked out lol I like how people act like rematches didn't happen. GGG had a rematch to knock out Canelo he didn't do it! Kova had a rematch chance to knock out glass jaw ward that got dropped by boone right? That's what was said before now excuses come Castillo beat Mayweather right? Didn't he have a chance to do it again if these people are better and or should have won then should be no problem doing it again to many excuses by fans Instead of boxers accepting its corrupt and doing what they need to do in rematches lol. You have to be some sort of loser to get on here and defend these dudes who had a chance to right their wrong but instead proved what we knew from the first fights different levels minus GGG, canelo

what in that first fight?hell no as I had Kovalev winning that first encounter by a good few rounds.
Don't get me wrong if I was to be as subjective as I can I wouldn't have Kovalev up by four or five rounds like they had on commentary as Ward did make it messy and we all know that he's a master at that.
At the very best for Ward you could give him a draw but to take those belts off the champ when he did all the pressing and all of the good stuff in the fight was pretty off I thought.

One day I will enter the fourn and I will read you saying that the second fight could have gone either way too. You just cant deal with reality and make your own one.

Stupid nonsense, if the first fight left any doubt, the second, with kovalev quitting like a sissi and dancing like judah, left NONE.

So many years with all that kovalev = alpha was too much, you just cant deal with reality after so much self-lying.

If you give Ward the benefit of every doubt there is a fairly legitimate way to give Ward six rounds. But there is absolutely no way Ward won seven rounds and Kovalev had a knockdown. It was close (but not razor close), it was very competitive, and Ward obviously did much better in the second half of the fight. But there is no way that Ward won that fight.
