Kovalev won. Any dumbass could see that. Ward got the decision, fair or foul, most definitely foul but there's nothing to be done about it. What he, Ward, does from hereon out is his prerogative. Personally I think he should retire. He doesn't need to get his **** pushed in again by Kovalev, it would be too damaging to his legacy, too much of an ask to get a second "hometown" decision. He should retire and do something spectacular with his life. Be the first man on Mars, be the first man to visit Venus. Hit up NASA, probe for a slot in their extra-solar exploration team. No-one would miss him, but conversely, we would all miss him. We would all ask, where is Andre now? Where's Andre now, ma? Ma would answer, he's just passing through the Kuiper Belt, we know he'll make it, we just have to hope ...

I'm watching and scoring this fight again right now. The first 2 times I watched it I scored it for Ward, but all this bitching about a robbery is getting truly annoying. So I'm gonna do it one more time to try too see what all the people complaining on this forum everyday (STILL) are on about.

    Round 1.) 10-9 Kovalev.

That right hand that took Ward down was as loud as a gunshot, but Andre gets right up surprisingly coherent and even grins at the ref like "yeah that was a good shot." Yet still looked unbelievably okay/recovered from a cracking shot.

    Round 2.) 10-8 Kovalev.

Ward came out in round 3 determined to make the fight ugly, lots of wrestling in the clinch from both fighters. Ward landed the harder shots that round, while Sergey was seemingly more worried about proving to Andre that he was gonna win the wrestling match. Yet in doing so forgot to be as active in punch output, leading to Ward winning his first round based on the better harder connects.

    Round 3.) 10-9 Ward.

Kovalev gets back on track, throwing accurate hard punches, Ward still trying to figure out a winning approach, yet still to this point failing to do so. Not near as much wrestling this round from either fighter.

    Round 4.) 10-9 Kovalev.

Ward starts to take more initiative this round starting to land his hard jab more frequently, sprinkling in and landing a few big body shots as well as a nice hook and decent right hand. Kovalev for his part did okay, but he's starting to more and more chase Ward around the ring instead of cutting him off.

    Round 5.) 10-9 Ward.

Round six was honestly a pretty even round, both fighters landed good shots, Ward on the inside, Kovalev at range. On this viewing I slightly favor Kovalev's attack from distance, but Ward looks to be figuring out his approach.

    Round 6.) 10-9 Kovalev.

At the halfway point 58-55 Sergey Kovalev.

Ward comes out and really starts to concentrate on the body, mixing in some good stiff jabs and a couple of real nice right hands. Sergey for his part with exception of 2 real hard jab connects really doesn't get much good work done this round.

    Round 7.) 10-9 Ward.

Eight is Ward controlling the action with a great body attack and jab, Andre also lands a real nice left hook to Sergey's head. You can see now Andre's body attack is starting to takes it toll on Kovalev, Sergey trying to remain active from distance, but his shots weren't near as crisp or as frequent this round.

    Round 8.) 10-9 Ward.

Who do you hate more: Ward or Povetkin?

Because the crowd likes action fighters. You obviously never been to a boxing match, you can't see ****.

Nine has Sergey landing a couple decent right hands, and a few jabs, but they don't have near the mustard on them as they did in the first half of the fight. This round Ward lands close to at will with his right hand, while throwing and connecting with the harder jab at this point. The clinches in this round are almost exclusively controlled by Ward with some great body work.

Round 9.) 10-9 Ward (clear Ward round.)

Yeah it's a funny one I said at the time that one could only say it was a robbery given that Kovelevs belts were literally stolen from him,the quality and crisp work was from Kovalev but you're right too about Kovalev getting caught up in that wrestling crap that Ward calls boxing and IMO that's where he lost the fight but I agree taking the gravitas as to what was at stake it wasn't a robbery it was close and some rounds were as you like it?
