Is he? I mean some people talk about him like he's the second coming . He beat Carl Froch convincingly . The only thing that made his stock go up was -GGG ducking him . The Kovalev fights made him realize his limits and he probably retired knowing that the competition was getting younger stronger and bigger maybe that's why he didnt make the move to hw im glad he retired and didnt go to heavyweight .
Most over rated person to step through the ropes other than perhaps Wilder but at least Wilder fights, I don't even like to call this person a boxer. Wrestler, scragger, hugfreak is what he is.
Wins one of if not the greatest tourney in boxing history, has wins over multiple HOF'ers and fringe-HOF'ers... Literally fought the best fighters at his division. His resume is stacked with fighters that everyone knows. Never lost with only one debatable fight, which he convincingly won the immediate rematch of and also happened to be against a very highly P4P rated folk hero. You don't have to like him, and with how many people passionately don't, it's hard to call him anything but underrated by boxing fans. Imagine if those that hate Ward so much held every fighter to that standard? Boy, what a miserable bunch that would be.
Not over rated, but more an over achiever in my opinion. He wasn't the most athletically gifted. He had avg. power, but he had a great ring IQ. Nobody is saying that he's as good as prime Jones jr. or Prime Hopkins. He beat who was put in front of him. He had no problems with Kessler, or Froch. He beat the crap out of Chad Dawson, struggled but eeked out a decision against Kovalev, then made Kovalev his son in the rematch.
Ward did fight Kovalev, which was considered a beast at the time. He didn't have to do it and I respect him a lot for that as a boxer. He won fair and square in the rematch against Kovalev. He faced and won at 168 against guys who were dominating their opposition. I still feel he ducked Bute who would have a good chance against him. He ducked an other south paw in Stevenson. Ward diserve all the praise he received as a boxer, he was really good, that good. But damn I didn't like him.
No he’s an incredible boxer that in big fights chose to fight in a very old fashioned, dogged fashion that was awful to watch, don’t let that fool you though, against Barrera a fight he knew he could win without wrestling he boxed beautifully.
Ward is disliked for a reason His cheating ass style Canelo vs GGG 1 and 2 was Beautiful boxing How many clinches in Wilder Fury?
