Andre Ward overrated ?

You really think he ducked Bute and Stevenson? Stevenson ffs?!!!?

After moving up and fighting the boogeyman of the division. Universally lauded and feared. Especially here on East-side-of-the-Atlantic Boxing. A literal killer in the ring that you guys said he would never dare to step in the ring with. Yet the Son Of God fought him. Twice.

You gotta be a Canuck. Only thing makes sense.

 

Yes. He deserved to be p4p #1 one of those early twenty-teen years most people give to Mayweather, but he probably was barely top five when the Kovalev fights inspired Ring to crown him.

Yet even though he has undeniable talent, his resume is a little thin. He should have lost both Kovalev fights. Without them he's just the best super middle weight, king of a historically young and weak division.

He got four or five good fights there. That's something. But modern greats will have ten or twenty like that, and old timers thirty or forty.

He was pretty good. Not amazing or he might have fought his way to a heavyweight title like others his size have done. And he might have a better record if he hadn't played the prima Donna and sat out years of a career bickering over money.

I think he was capable of slightly more than he achieved if he'd been more active, but in regards to his talent level light heavyweight was his ceiling. Two weight champ ain't bad, but it's not goat material.

 

He must be about the most utterly charisma-less, dominant, surefire hall of famer in some time.
I instinctively wanted to like Ward when he first started gaining notice just prior to the Super 6. He was articulate, nice looking, a soft spoken Christian, the last American gold medalist, competing in a weight class that had been dominated by Europeans far too long and to top it off he was with Goosen who was considered one of the few non-sleazy promoters. I mean, how could I not like this guy?
By the time the Super6 was over I remember thinking, somewhat sheepishly, that the young Ward fought like the old Hopkins - and that’s not meant as a compliment. Then came the multiple lawsuits against his promoter, accusing him of not honoring his contract. I mean, here was Goosen who had managed to get this relatively unknown fighter all hometown fights against well known fighters and Ward has the audacity to say Dan didn’t honor his contract?! Ward no sooner loses one court battle only to start another one. Lose that one too and start another. For a guy who’s about as easy on the eyes as John Ruiz, Ward really thought pretty highly of himself. But nevertheless, Ward is a winner. He’s just the kind of winner that nobody cared about when he was fighting and care even less about now.

 

I dont like him or his style, but hes actually underrated. His resume is totally stacked. Who cares if he lost the first Kovalev fight anyways. It was close and at that time Kovalev demolishes everybody in the division besides Ward like a tank going over an eggshell. Kovalev was a ****en monster back then.

Plus he beat all the 168 pounders with no trouble. Hes great at boxing.

 

Bute was a glass jaw hype job

GGG said at some point that Bute was the best fighter he faced, I will take his opinion over yours. If Bute was so easy to beat, Ward would have taken the fight, Kessler would have also (Kessler went to Montreal and was in the crowd when Bute fought, Bute's team send an official offer to Kessler and Kessler's respond was through media saying he was not interested in fighter a south paw). An old washed up Bute tied Badu Jack and lost a split decision to a prime Degale. Ward did have the power to drop Bute like Froch did.

As for Ward reaction to fighting Stevenson when Stevenson was hot : he doesn't deserve to fight me, that is ducking word.

Both Stevenson and Bute are southpaw.

 

He headbutted and ball smashed his way to victory in fights and used hometown refs to get the job done. He has a decent resume but that doesn't make up for the cheating.

Then there's Victor Conte his conditioning coach and his last minute fight announcements.

 

head butts were a joke. he slowly gotten better at not doing it so often. the kessler fight was so excessive. but i dont think hes overated. he accomplished alot. i think he could of been alot better . i wish he would of fought bute thats for sure. and after he beat kovalev the 2nd time i wish he would of stuck around and got it on with adonis and then retire.
