Actually, most headgear do not cover the face totally. You can still be hit in the eye, and even above the eye, particularly if the headgear does not cover all of the skin. Many fighters use the wrong size, or fail to pull it down properly. If the skin above the eye is exposed, it can get caught and cut. It happens. One also has to wonder if they were applying vaseline to the eyes before the sparring, which can help. Again, even with a proper headgear, if it has a slight nick or jag to it, that can get rubbed over the eye when the headgear is hit, and cause a cut.
All is well, Wards team promises a KO. Froch demands OSDT. Ward is cut, out for a few months. Conte is somewhere panicking.
Its odd that Ward has had all of his S6 fights near home. The only S6 fight he wasnt going to have at home (but still in his home country) had some mystery surrounding it and ended up being cancelled. Now when Ward isnt going to be in his home state again, the fights cancelled again. This must be bad news for Ward because im sure he would have liked to have tried and proved to himself by travelling like all of the other original S6 fighters. I read he didnt want to fight Dirrell in Mitchigan but did read he would be willing to fight him somewhere neutral. I was surprised Ward would feel that way with his fights being at home. The interesting thing will be where this fight gets rescheduled to, with time differences and travel distances and the upheaval of fighting away which Froch would have been doing for the 4th time in a row.
