i think hes starting his new career as a stage actor in the new nutcracker coming out this christmas at radio city hall ha
how can you retire from boxing when you never actually started boxing? this guy lived in his own little world sparing no expense to surround himself by those yes men who humoured him. the guy was a total joke in almost every aspect
Esb never ceases to amaze me with the worthless hot takes. Guy was PFP #1, multiple weight chance and a great resume. You can play the he shoulda woulda game with every fighter. The fact he fought close with kov in the 1st fight shows how great he was and he stole Kovs soul the second fight. Buncha racist nuthuggers on here. Can't appreciate greatness.
Everyone that disagrees with me is also racist. Can't believe it's like that for you too! Small world.
I'm sad to see him leave, at a young 33, when he might have strengthened his LHW status with wins over Stevenson and maybe Gvozdyk and Beterbiev. But he may well be the greatest SMW ever, and beating Kovalev in the rematch cemented his HOF and ATG cred. If he isn't physically 100% and with that isn't mentally willing to continue, props to him for going out on top. I'm sure he didn't take the decision lightly, and therefore I don't think he's the kind of guy we can expect to come back. As a tribute to Andre I want to bring everyone's attention to his meet and greet in the UK between the Kovalev fights. There's a good few hours of video by FightHype and iFL TV. I admired him as a boxer of course before, but it was only when I saw these videos that I became a huge fan. He was generous with and took an interest in every person he talked to. As a fan having a staredown with a boxing great... how cool would that be! In the interview sessions he was more engaging and forthright than we've seen anywhere, and shared a lot of insight about his career and his perspectives on boxing. Seeing and hearing him in these videos is a real treat. Take the time to check them out if you haven't yet. Andre Ward is the classiest act in boxing and an awesome person. It only says something about you if you have a bad word at all to say about him. This content is protected
I was obviously joking. I could envisage you running around your house going crazy with excitement when you heard the news.
Well done Andre. A great great fighter and an even better man! Who will ever forget your achievements an Olympic gold medal, winner of the Super Six tournament and unified Light heavyweight champion of the world. It was my pleasure to meet you. All the best champ. You truly are a one of a type kind of guy. My best to both you and your family.
Retire at top of the tree, healthy and wealthy, that is a plan that more of our sport should have done. Enjoy your retirement champ.
Ironically enough he would have ranked higher with most boxing fans if he retired before his last two... ehrmmm. "wins".. But at least he beat prime Froch fair and square. That is a great win.
There are a lot of salty people here on this thread. Ward is truly an ATG , the best of his generation. I will always enjoy the beating he gave to the supposed unbeatable Kovalev . That always will bring a smile!
You gotta understand, this is not against any fighter personally. The politics and shenenigans in boxing are just completely out of hand. Teddy Atlas was right for once. Ward had some great moments in his career, some top top level victories... BUT recent fights have contributed to cement his status as an ATG bullshiyt artist more so than boxer. It's just the truth.
