If Ward beats Barrera he become the mandatory. Andre should be happy to get this fight. If he lets it get away then he has lost all credibility and is no longer a serious fighter. And I don't care that he has an HBO 3 fight deal. That means nothing at the moment.

 

Ward is not fighting Barrera so he can become mandatory to Kovalevs titles. Ward is fighting him to get some ring rust off.

I think the fight will get made soon. Probably withing the next two weeks. Ward will decision Berrara, and his detractors will go back bytching until his next fight.

If he pulls off Barrera and Kovalev in a year, I'd give him tons of credit for turning his career back around and getting past the last few years of shooting himself in the foot.

Heck, if he just gets the Barrera fight made, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that the Kovalev fight gets made this year without waiting until he's in the arena to believe it.

Criticism of his career doesn't always equal hate. In my case, it's a lack of trust that he's over the entitlement that got to him from the Super 6. The sport would be better off with an active, hungry, fight anyone Andre Ward. He's a hell of a fighter. I'd love for him to prove me wrong, but since Dawson, the bearish stance on his career has been the accurate one, and it's essentially been his own doing.

He was on the tip of s****om after that fight. Even had a Nike sponsorship and airtime in a commercial. It was frustrating to see him on the brink of what he wanted career-wise, only to shoot himself in the foot, and now complain that he's not there anymore.

He's now in a position to earn that back, and I'll give him full credit once he does.

The man never fights, hasn't beat anybody worth beating since the super 6 final and needs "tune up" after "tune up" for fights he looks to have no intention of actually fighting.
