didn't take long, did it? however if froch wins his chavez vegas gig and ringside ward calls him out, i reckon froch would struggle to turn him down. especially if ward's prepared to go to the city ground, froch always wanted to fight there.
It could be more like a year and a half and I think he's good enough to fight a top level opponent in his comeback. Floyd fought Marquez, Ward could do something similar if he wanted to. I think the reason why guys like Golovkin and Ward are reluctant to move up is because it can be difficult to move back down so they want to make sure they don't move up too soon.
You do realize Ward needs the fight to be on PPV too, right? There isn't enough money to make the fight without it unless Roc Nation is willing to front the difference take a substantial loss for the sake of making a splash.
Why does anyone need it to be on PPV? These are two of HBO's favored sons and they've demonstrated a greater willingness to cough up money for both than for anyone of comparable popularity.
I agree. But if you dont want it just keep quiet. No need to stir the pot and than use money as an excuse later. Both Ward and GGG have been guilty of this. As a fan I just want to see the best fights. These guys are going to get paid handsomely no matter what.
Isnt this Frochs last fight? Im not sure why he'd bother fighting after he fights Chavez. If he wins, he gets to go out on a high, if he loses Ward probably wont be bothered fighting him. Besides Hearn has said repeatedly that he has no interest in Froch fighting Ward because Ward doesnt bring enough money for the risk involved. That hasnt changed
:deal And why do fans feel the need to let the PPV excuse fly? This is a huge fight, a meaningful fight....these guys WILL get paid!
The amount that will be wanted for this fight is more than likely more than they're willing to shell out. If Ward wanted at least 2 mil for Edwin, he's going to want more against GGG, who in return is going to want more than he's ever had. Pretty sure HBO was upset at the 3 mil they spend for Ward's last fight. Maybe things will be different now under Andre's new promoter, but more than likely, for financial reasons, this fight will be on PPV.
I see little reason to immediately invoke this sort of hypothetical. Quite frankly the people shouting "There's not enough money" seem to coincidentally overlap with those who constantly brought up Ward's now ended promotional troubles as justification for K2's clear and repeated disinterest in a Ward fight.
he'd've already retired if not for the chance of this fight. but were ward to call him out ringside i don't see froch saying no. do you? we're talking froch not quillin!
Because Ward wants a lot of money for the fight. So does GGG. GGG wants min of 2mil to leave his weight class, Ward doesnt fight anyone even E-rod for less than 2mil let alone Golovkin. HBO doesnt hand over more than 3mil pretty much ever (and usually less) for regular TV dates. Plus both camps agree at this point, it should be a superfight anyway. GGG-Ward is the next PAC-Floyd, from HBO and BOTH camps POV there is no point in spending a lot of money to make it yet. Roc will get Ward in the ring 2-3 times first to rebuild his brand, and K2 will force the WBC belt issue first to make it a major fight between an Undisputed MW champ and lineal SMW champ. Probably sell out the Forum on PPV late this year or early next year. Right now it would be GGG carrying the event, but Ward wants more money because of his pedigree. Once Ward does his part and rebuilds his brand via ring appearances, and GGG achieves more at MW the fight will get made.
Ward has called him out at ringside before(well, in an interview after the fight to be precise) and it didnt work. If the money isnt right, Froch wont fight. Ward doesnt bring the big bucks, and would likely beat him again. Its lose/lose for Froch.
Don't lump me in with those people. What I brought up was a legitimate claim. Just because you don't see it that way, doesn't mean you just assume I'm one of those people who consistently make up excuses for this fight. Incidentally, I'm echoing Ward's sentiments when he said that this fight will be a PPV fight down the line. But for the sake of argument, where do you think they money will come from to make this fight? And don't label me as someone who is looking for ways to not want this fight. I want this fight as a fan. The sport always comes before the boxer. I have no allegiances.
