Instead of Buglioni, even Anthony Yarde would have been the better pick even though he is inexperienced.

Good fight. Doubt it happens, I think it is more likely that Ward drops a belt.

Yes, agreed, however Hunter has also said the opposite - he contradicts himself all the time. Likewise Ward himself has said he couldn't make 168lb any more.

So it's hard to go by what Team Ward say, but undoubtedly Ward looks a decent size LHW now.

Maybe Ward could have stayed at 168, but going back down after bulking up is another proposition.

HBO made a mistake when they did not call out Bob Bennett for allowing SOB to cheat, he landed three low blows to the testicles, the punch hit the letter on Kovalev's trunks! I would never allow my fighter to fight SOB because SOB always cheats........................Kovalev was very popular because he won those titles, SOB did not win the titles, they were stolen, so now HBO has lost a fight. SOB said he was going to beat Joshua? No way. SOB said years ago that he was going to knock out both Vitali and Vlad Klitschko, but he never signed a contract. SOB clearly cheated, the video does not lie, look at the still pictures..................low blows to the testicles are illegal, SOB should have been disqualified and SOB lost the first fight, he owned the judges...........................that's why I hate SOB, he is a cheat, he can't win without cheating.......................

So, from "I'll fight Joshua" to "I wonder if Buglioni is available?"

Ward is p4p #1 and when you fight twice a year if that, their is no room for tune up fights at this level. When Mayweather was p4p 1 he set the standard by fighting solid competition each and every time.

Buglioni is not a contender at LHW, he is just a domestic level fighter, Barrera is levels above him. Bivol's competition hasn't been great, but Samuel Clarkson and Agnew are better wins than anything on Franks resume.

If Ward said he could easily make 168 GGG would never consider moving up.

However when GGG moves up Ward will suddenly make it comfy and GGG will have no excuses. Ward is a small 175, he isn't even that big @ 168.

Strange pick of opponents considering he said he wanted big fights after beating Kovalev. Maybe he wanted a tune up fight before moving up to heavyweight to face Anthony Joshua. :D

I wouldn't have a problem with a tune up to stay busy if Ward
was negotiating a legit defense (against Adonis, Beterbiev, even
Alvarez or Jack). But it's well known Ward isn't gonna stay active
and his foot is halfway out the door concerning retirement,

Obviously either would be badly undermatched against SOG but looking pragmatically, it would probably be to gain more exposure in the UK (especially if he fought either here) to build a fight with Bellew or something.

Ward doesn't need exposure in the UK he's often mentioned in the past how popular he is and how many fans he has over here. We're talking about someone who is on record saying that he can sell at home and overseas and who is also on record saying that if he'd come over to England for a rematch with Froch not only would it have sold just as many tickets if not more than the 80,000 that turned up at Wembley Stadium to watch Froch vs Groves II (ie. hitherto at that time the biggest event in British boxing history). And he said this with a completely straight face btw lol. He can't even sell out his own hometown. Everytime he fights they have to hand out over a thousand if not thousands of comp tickets just to make the venue look less barren.

GGG who could barely even speak English at all at the time, comes from a country most Americans have probably never even heard of, and who had only been on US soil for just over 3.5 years and on US TV for the same amount of time, sold way more tickets in Ward's home state when he was fighting a ''bum'' than Ward did in his own hometown fighting a contender. And Ward has lived in the US his whole life, speaks perfect English, is America's only Olympic (male) gold medalist in over 20 years, and had an 8 year head start on US TV over GGG. In fact, every single one of Ward's fights have been shown on US TV on one channel or another and he even made his debut on HBO. And what's more the tickets for GGG vs said ''bum'' were more expensive than ones for Ward's fight vs contender too.

Golovkin vs Wade attendance - in California ie. Ward's home state

    16,353

Ward vs Barrera - in Oakland (of course) Ward's hometown

    8,532

    Ticket prices

    Ward vs Barrera

    $300, $150, $100, $50, $25

    Golovkin vs Wade

    $400, $300, $200, $100, $60, $30.

I found it funny in some article where Ward was explaining how he would have a bigger fan base if he promoted his Irish side more but he chose not to. I don't see what type of interest/exposure he could build up in England by fighting Buglioni in England let alone bringing Buglioni to Oakland.
